The thing with the 40D is that the focus points are a lot more sensitive than, say the 30/20D, If you are using the centre focus point you only have to lose the target for a split second and it will lock on to something else whereas earlier xxD Cameras would not lock on so quick so you would get away with it. Also if you enable all focus points then you must get the initial lock on the centre point as 'tdodd' as already said. Like an ever increasing number of bird shooters I use AI servo all the time and results from the 40D are superb.p.s. I do find using the AF-on button instead of the shutter button for AF also helps a lot.</blockquote>
