The timber cut has begun. I think that there is something personal in that logging. The minister of the environment wants to show, that he is right that forests would not survive without human intervention (saw and ax) and leaving it alone would be his defeat. This feeling may be especially strong since his defeat by Rospuda and this is why he is determined so wildly. Białowieża Forest suffers from someone's personal complex. He and other opponents of protection of that forest are particularly obsessed with so called dead wood, look at it like at wasting precious wood and source of the plagues. There are many others like him. Białowieża Forest is like besieged fortress from the same beginning. Most of all it was visible between WWI and WWII. First director of the park Józef Paczoski was severly bullied and persecuted by State Forestry enterprise and government. He had even problems with getting retirement. Foresters were against protection of Bialowieża Forest, but they and hunters (very frequently two in one) recreated wisent population. Here botanists were oponents. Reasuming foresters / hunters liked wisents and disliked protection of the forest, botanists liked protection of the forest but disliked restoration of wisent population. Strange and funny. Its a pity that so called non governmental organizations were silent, obedient and blind when previous party was logging and that the term national park is like forbidden. But - PiS cuts more than PO - Bialowieża Forest is defeated at least when there is no democracy (= PO lost democratic elections). Better this than nothing. So maybe being a one party minions is advantageous. Edited later: By the way - this is bird nesting period.
