Dear Members and Bird Watchers

I have ID the below pictures as:

Lesser Black-backed Gull, even though the legs looks to be pink. In the sunshine they were yellow and I changed from Great to Lesser.

I can only see the difference with the leg colours. Anyone here that are able to see if this is really a Lesser Black-backed Gull

Kind Regards and Happy Birding
Aladdin

Leg (yellowish) and mantle colours (grey not blackish) better for lesser
Thank you!

Yes, the leg looks pinkish on the picture, but in real life they were more yellow and I changed to lesser.

This is the only way I can see the difference, but you mention the "mantle"

I looking at internet on bird topography, is this the area between the neck and the back? I can see that my bird are grey between the back and the neck.

Kind Regards
Aladdin

Here I'm using "mantle" informally to mean what we can see of the back and the majority of the folded wings (i.e. excluding the tips etc like the white tertial tips)---so the obvious dark grey bit of the bird.

(Here I find the tertial white quite prominent, almost like a great black back's)

Thank you!

Appreciated!

Maybe one day and I will get those gulls. I learn everyday and I have managed to ID a few gulls all by myself.

So all help is really appreciated and I learn a little something every time

Kind Regards
Nisse

I have in my mind that area named as "saddle"?
