Bali & Lombok (1 Viewer)

I will be travelling to Bali and Lombok this November. It’s not a birding trip as such but I have got one day in the Botanical gardens in Bedugul. (Bali Barat NP is too far as it’s a 4 hour drive!)
Then on Lombok I have one day in Kerandangan nature reserve. Both trips are with a guide from Bali birding.
Can any one help with suggestions on where else I should look and what I should watch out for nearer to the resorts where I will be staying?
-Ubud, & Nusa Dua on Bali.
And
-Medana Beach Tanjung North Lombok.
Will there be birds on Migration still?
I will get to visit the Gili Isles while there for a day trip. Would there be unusual or rarities to see there?
Also is there a chance of Pelagics on the ferry to Lombok or the boat to Gili’s.
I have purchased
Birds of the Indonesian Archipelago by Eaton & Balen
Many thanks for your thoughts?
Steve

Nusa Dua is excellent and very easy to do independently, Ubid is awful (heavy traffic, very touristy).

Can also try Ulawatu Temple if you fancy a chance of White-tailed Tropicbird (I saw here a couple of months ago). Though on the opposite side of the island, Bali Barat really is excellent and I would think about the possibility of adding this (eg stay overnight to avoid the very long day trip it would entail).

I did not use guides anywhere and birding was better than I expected for Bali - the botanical gardens at Bedugul were very good, as was the track above the nearby golf course.

Any good sites you found in Nusa Dua?

Hi Steve

I lived in Bali in ubud for a couple of years . Best birder to ask there is awbirder on instagram.. he lives in ubud but travels widely as a bird guide . I’m afraid not great birding there as the locals still shoot birds - but there are a few areas he can guide you in . Happy to help myself with any practical tips . Howard has my number for what’s app

Oh- Bali starling is up near to Lovina but they are also breeding some for release nearer to Canggu .. but that was captive - a few years back . north eastern sulawesi great for birds of paradise ( near to raja Ampat )

They should be considerably further east than Lovina. Free-flying birds/breeding pairs originating from release birds and possibly the few remaining original population are now relatively easy at the fringes of the West Bali National Park between Gilimanuk and Menjangan, eg at feeders near the small boat port here: -8.1433454, 114.5396530

Sadly just too far Jos as my wife would not want to make that journey 🤷
