Barrow and Nome - campsite & car renting? (1 Viewer)

Hi to all,
I and one friend plan to visit Alaska "by our own" in may-june 2025. This mainly to reduce the cost
Main places are Anchorage - Barrow (Utqiagvik) - Nome

No problem for Anchorage, we find easily car and hotel
For Nome, we found a campsite Salmon Lake Campground | Bureau of Land Management (any advice?) but no car...

and For Utqiagvik, we found nothing (no car nor accomodation nor campsite). King Eider is full, Airport Inn is "closed"

Can anyone give me some tips (local contacts, websites, FB, ...) ???

also I look for a local naturalist in Anchorage for 1-2 days guiding; especially for some mammals, orchids ...

Thanks in advance
Xavier

Try searching for a arctic tour company that does a two day trip to Utqiagvik. 71 North tours? Mostly they have hotelrooms blocked for group tours. Go on the tour and say to the tourguide we will go birdwatching instead of going to the Inuit dance trip. That is one step. Second step is finding a car.

Or find a pickup truck rental and sleep on the truck bed with a tent.

many thanks, Alaska is surprisingly not easy to organise but finally, with no hotel available, we opted for the second option :) and booked a car via UICAlaska.com Contact
