Correct, am assuming that it’s a variant, as can be found when you trawl
“Laura’s Birding Blog” under PS.

If I can remember my time in BC correctly (doubtful!) I can't see a problem with this being a female Western tanager.

Completely missing the overall size of the bird (tail etc behind branch) and the bill looking decidedly grey, size alone would exclude PS.👍

I believe you are correct, shape and markings are good for W.Tanager and the yellow I saw on the rump would confirm. I think the overall drabness of the bird led me to think it might be something else.
