Beavers - Canterbury's new celebrity family! (1 Viewer)

There's a thread with an obtusely worded title on this already but since it hadn't had any replies untiI I responded a few minutes ago I thought I'd start a thread about them. East Kent (mainly downriver from Canterbury has a growing population of European Beaver although they're not easy to see). A recent survey found 51 occupied territories and a further 19 where occupancy was uncertain. The exact number of animals involved is unclear but I gather it's a minimum of 200 and probably upwards of 400. Evidence of their presence along the river within the city has been clear for some years but it's only since this spring that they have been showing well. They have taken up residence between Pound Lane and Sainsbury's just upstream from the back entrance to St John's Primary School. The footpath along the river is very well-used which, hopefully, gives the animals some protection against those with ill intent. The locals (me included - I'm 5 minutes walk away) are very proud of our newest celebrity family. They've been seen early mornings and in the afternoon but the best time is probably after 18.30.

Evening John.

Thank you for sharing. Isn’t the area where the lodge is located a local nature reserve (Bus man’s Island)?

Regards
Stuart
