I'm not sure about the 450 but the 40D and the 400mm prime lens is in my opinion the best there is for bird photos especialy flight shots if you can afford it. Around £1500. If you start with a smaller lens in 6 months time you will want a bigger one so it makes sense to wait till you can afford a good one. Jim</blockquote>
