Hi, i have often thought houseboat trip on the river would be nice way to see lots of birdlife there, bit like a enormous supermarket of birds! just the fact that much of the non-cliff sides, easily accessed banks for long walks have shoulder to shoulder two story shacks down to the water, commandeering the whole blooming thing sheesh - something seems wrong about that to me? ruins it otherwise, except for the sporadic occasional access for us plebs! i was surprised at all the whistling kites at morgan coz its the black kites which are the dominant BoP at mannum, and other places we have been there, interesting that its all wk's further up you go!? reminds me i first saw a peregrine f. at swan reach public cliff lookout, i was standing there looking at the view, and like a vision this magnificent bird lazily rose up before my eyes, on some invisible thermal on the cliff face, wings outstretched, just a foot or two in front of me, and revealing the most sublime colour scheme painted on its chest. it looked like a work of art! with each individual small downy feather seemingly handpainted in a different shade/colour, all the colours of desert, like indigenous dot artwork artwork.. it looked at me in the eye, just as surprised as I was, for what seemed a strangely long time, suspended aloft effortlessly, and then shot off at blur creating pace inland from river.. it was one of those moments, and was definitely played a big part in giving me the bird bug, I saw birds differently after that day why do people doubt you saw a grey falcon? I have seen one take a new holland honeyeater locally, in a park,, and that was also an extraordinary experience, we heard the commotion from what seemed a large group NHH, they were giving the alarm calls very loudly, and seemed deeply concerned about their group member, and all lined atop the smaller trees keening, not unlike the meerkats from meerkat manor! and was also an eye/mind opening encounter lets just say.. the collective level of intelligence was very spooky cheers
