Message: <blockquote data-quote="Alexis Powell" data-source="post: 1305428" data-attributes="member: 5327">The rubber bit for the DS eyepiece may reduce the useable eye-relief by a millimeter or so but it should still be much better than the MC version.  These 30x eyepieces are clearly not optically the same, as can be seen from the photos on the links John Traynor posted.  The MC is a very simple eyepiece that does not extend in to the scope body whereas the DS has a construction that incorporates a Barlow (as do all the higher powered Fieldscope eyepieces) and so extends into the scope body a bit.  In contrast, the higher powered 27/40/50x DS might be optically the same as its MC counterpart; they both have the same eye-relief spec of 17.8 mm. --AP</blockquote>
