I watched the programme last night. I wasn't expecting much, but there were parts that I enjoyed - and plenty of parts that made me wince! I think that any programme on the box at peak viewing time that promotes birds and birding has to be positive, although quite obviously this is aimed at 'joe public at large'. It is not a serious programme about birds, but it doesn't have to be, and in a strange way it was sort of refreshing to have this type of programme about our hobby - the likes of which we've never seen before! When todays telly is mostly very samey it was good to see something different. I was impressed with Bill Bailey and loved the way he spoke passionately about birds. It seemed to me that he has a genuine love of birds and wildlife which I thought shone through all the rest of the silly stuff. I thought his knowledge was genuine too. Interesting to see the different 'challenges', but I hated the parts when the flocks of birds were spooked, by that awful Joe Swash. Hope he's not on every week as he makes me quite angry! Alex Zane and Kara Tointon were good, at least they took their challenges sort of seriously. So overall I think it's much better to have this programme on the telly at the moment than not. I certainly will be watching all the episodes, even though it is not really the type of birding programme we all crave - far from it in fact. I find it entertaining and I'm pleased that our hobby has got more exposure at peak viewing time. Looking forward to the programme (recorded in North Norfolk) next Thursday.:t:
