Titchmarsh!!! - please no! that Nature of Britain was a complete flop, due to that twonk!
All we need is somebody who knows their onions, the following would therefore be excluded:

Titchmarsh
Fogle
Ellie Harrison
Richard Hammond
Ray Parlour/Charlie Dimmock
....please add as neccesary!

But is it really necessary to have a birder or someone who knows their onions to present a program? Kate Humble may not be a birder or nature expert(is she,I do't know much about her other than she's an ex model) but she works cos of her on screen manner. And this isn't a program about birds is it,its a nature show. If it were a bird watch(oh please do!) then I'd want to see someone who knows their stuff and is passionate about it.

Sorry everyone but i have to defend Titchmarsh. regardless what you think of the man it was he and ground force who made gardening watch-able and do-able for the younger generation 10 years ago and got people interested in gardening again.
Imagine a format which made youngsters ( i mean school kids ) leave the bedroom/computers/playstations behind and appreciate the natural world around them. Autumn/Springwatch may even make the heady heights of BBC1

I couldn't agree more about Titchmarsh being totally inapproptiate, though we're onions are concerned simple - let him stick to them and leave wildlife alone! He ruined the British Isles prog and loves himself too much.

How about Nick Baker, very knowledgeable and watchable.

Titchmarsh is ok in his own area of expertise but there are many more knowledgeable 'nature' presenters already mentioned, and didn't groundforce encourage people to pave over lawns and stick decking all over the place? hardly wildlife friendly.

Terry Nutkins was a guest on Ready, Steady, Cook tonight (No I didn't watch it ....honestly... Oh well perhaps I did!) Sounds as though he's had a pretty interesting 'wild life'. I only know him as one of the presenters of the Really Wild Show. Is he being reintroduced to the public ready for a spring programme? Listening to him tonight I think he'd do a good job.

The Really Wild Show was probably my favourite TV programme when growing up, absolutely loved it. It had the balance just right between educational and entertaining.

Terry Nutkins popped up a while back on the news when that whale was found swimming up the Thames.

Terry Nutkins might be a good bet for springwatch he has a new show "My Life as an Animal" is on BBC3 in April.Terry also revealed he hopes to front the BBC's Springwatch, after Bill Oddie quit.

Another presenter popped up on BBC2 who looked the part for Springwatch on a programme called 'Monty Halls Great Escape'. anyone see this at all. It was very interesting.

Anyone know him? He looks a bit like Simon King lookwise?

I saw a little bit of it, and yes, he seemed quite good: at least, he didn't make me want to throw things at the television, which most of the other candidates that have been suggested here do.

What about Johnny Kingdom he's not bad

Have been trying to think of a way to word a response that isn't snide - I've no problem with Johnny doing what he does (not for me but I know a lot of people enjoy his programmes) but he really really would not be a good choice at all. Would certainly put paid to me watching any of it!

On balance I think he is probably the best choice. I had been favouring Mike Dilger but, after watching him on the One Show recently, I am not sure he would be up to the task of fronting such a big programme. Chris Packham certainly has the experience and the knowledge, so I will be interested to see what the programme is like with him in Bill's place. I'm looking forward to seeing all the wildlife at Pensthorpe once more. :t:

Yep - a good choice. I, as probably did the producers, would have struggled to choose between Chirs Packham, Mike Dilger, and Nick Baker - all very knowledgable on british wildlife and accomplished presenters. Thank goodness "Aunite's favourites" aka Titchmarsh/Fogle didn't get the job!
