No idea of the quality but there are two interesting binos under the comet brand on a well known online auction site; a 7x30 porro & an 8x42 OH roof prism. They're going for just £11.99 +£3 shipping. I've ordered both just out of curiosity, thought it may be of interest.

Any experience with these?

Costco has Alpen 10x42 Shasta Peak Waterproof Roof Prism Binoculars for $99 (after $50 discount until July 26 2015, while supplies last.) Free shipping.

This does not appear to be limited to Costco members, but I may be wrong.

In addition to the lifetime no-fault warranty from Alpen, Costco has a generous return policy. Some other Alpen products are there too.

Some features:
Waterproof/Fogproof
PXA™ Phase coated for superior image clarity and contrast
Fully Multicoated optical system
BAK4 optics for a bright, sharp, high resolution image
Twist up rubber eyecups
Durable nylon carrying case, extra wide neck strap, and cleaning cloth
Dimensions: 5.75” x 5” x 2”
Weight: 26 ounces
Warranty: ALPEN’s No-Fault Lifetime

I've heard that the Shasta Ridge binoculars are Alpen's version of the Vortex Diamondbacks, and the Diamondbacks are fairly well regarded. I'd guess that $99 for a 10x42 is a pretty good deal!

I also noticed these, they look like United Optics products to me. I was cautious to buy without review, despite the low price... also the arrival of further binoculars will not go unnoticed...

However at the price the 7x30 looked like it might be a decent bino for children if the IPD goes as close as the other binos that look to be based on the same basic UO design. I'm thinking it looks a lot like the Celestron Nature 8x30...

I for one will be interested in a quick review, would be a great bargain for the nephew, also to keep in the car even if they're only half-decent.

Cheers Pyro I'll make sure that I will do a quick review of both pairs. Under £30 for two pairs of binoculars is an absolute bargain, I can always donate them to less fortunate conservationists if I decide not to keep them. The 7x30's look like celestron cypress or similar. The 8x42's look generic but are at least waterproof should I pass them on.

Just picked up a Pentax DCF 10x43 ED. $499 Good deal. http://www.adorama.com/PX1043DCF.html

Bryce...

Half price! Which is the price they should cost given the specs on the 8x42 model with its 6.3* FOV, on par with inexpensive entry level roofs. At least you're getting 6*, which translates to 60* AFOV rather than the 50.4* AFOV of the 8x43.

Let us know what you think of them on the Pentax forum.

Brock,

I did own this same binocular purchased it back in 06\07 when they first came out.

At that time to my eyes they were exceptionally good.

Hopefully these will be a good sample and play as a backup 10x.

In case anybody missed it in the ZR subforum, Zenray is offering a $100 discount on its demo Prime binoculars. The coupon code is "BIRDFORUM". With the discount, the 8x42 would be about $449, and the 10x42 would be $459. I've got the 8x42, and it's a great binocular.

REALLY a DEAL!

Thought I'd pass this along…
Cabela's has a DEAL on Leica Trinovids…
10X42 $1249.99
8X42 $1199.99

Thinking about them myself!

If I were in the market for the excellent Leica Trinovid (one of the best buys out there in my not-so-humble opinion!) I would not even stub my toe looking any further than Eagle Optics (currently showings demos for $1199) or Cameraland New York (same price currently for demo models). Both have AWESOME customer service and "demos" from both I have bought in the past looked like "brand-new-in-the-box" to me. Both have gladly accepted returns in an easy fashion, and both have almost personalized service.

Is this a good price for a NIB Golden Ring 8x32 HD binoculars, really want to pull the trigger, but don't know this is a good price or not? Just want to ask all the experts.

Thanks in advance,
That is a very good price on those especially for new ones. Act FAST because they will sell quickly. Those very rarely come up for sale. They are great binoculars and everything he says about them are true. They are a little heavy for 8x32's but that is because they are built so well and have a lot of good glass in them. Looks like a super seller.
