In on the carbon fiber Brunton tripod deal at the new price of $59.99. I tried their Make an Offer option twice but both were rejected. The first was at $49.99 and the second was 10% off (less $6.00) for $53.99. I did not see any point in any additional attempts. Looks like they are happy with the $59.99 price for the moment.

Bruce I went down to $1 off the aluminum Brunton tripod and they would not take that.:-O

Dennis you should get that Zeiss binocular on Amart.

I don't think the 10x42 HT with it's super light transmission is going to perform any better than my 10x50 SV Swarovski's even in low light. If I did get a Zeiss it would be the 8x42 SF for the big FOV. That would give me an 8x32 SV, an 8x42 SF and a 10x50 SV. That might be an interesting combination. Then I could talk on the Zeiss threads too. That is a deal on those HT's though. You could probably offer him $1300.00 in a couple of days and he would take it.

I received confirmation that my carbon fiber model shipped today. My first carbon fiber model. Will post when it arrives.

In case others haven't made it clear, I'd be really curious to hear a review of this when you get it. Also, if you could measure the length it is when collapsed that would be appreciated. Carbon fiber for that price is damn tempting.

Looks like the new Field Pro will go for much less than retail from some of the usual Ebay sources. Will they have a warranty at that price, technically probably not, in reality probably, your guess is as good as mine. I've still got a $600 or $700 bath to take when I sell my NIB condition 10X50 after listening to them last year.

Ah, they were too expensive to begin with, so this is just a "market correction."

If Swaro does the unthinkable, and actually lowers the price of their top o' the line Swarovisions, that could force the other alphas to follow suit, perhaps not good for the goose but good for the gander to follow. Leica also dropped the price on its Trnnies and held the price steady on its UVs even though they upgraded them.

Funny, how this "race to the bottom" should come at a time when the economy is picking up rather than during the recession when the alphas were raising prices.

Or it could just be that they are clearing old inventory to make room for the new Field Pros, the eBay ad doesn't say its a Field Pro, it could be the last of the original Swarovision line that was made early last year.

Even Eagle Optics lowered the price on its 8.5x42 ELs to $2,279. Could be clearing the shelves for the Field Pros.

The 10x50s are more expensive, so you're not going to take that hot a bath, but if the price is going down, the time to sell is now.

Eagle Optics - Zeiss SF

Just happened to notice Eagle Optics is offering a sales price on the Zeiss SF.

08X42 on sale for $2,449.99, which is $150 off the normal $2,599.99 price.

http://www.eagleoptics.com/binoculars/zeiss/zeiss-victory-sf-8x42-binocular

10X42 on sale for $2,499.99, which is $150 off the normal $2,649.99 price.

http://www.eagleoptics.com/binoculars/zeiss/zeiss-victory-sf-10x42-binocular

Price includes free overnight FedEx shipping.

I did a quick check of the B & H Photo site and Optics Planet. Both show the normal price, no sale. Looks like this is an Eagle Optics only deal.

The 8X42 is showing out of stock for the moment, but it would be worth calling to see if they will take a pre-order at the sales price. I would expect more to arrive soon as it appears the back orders have been filled. They do have a 8X42 SF demo for $2,399.99.

If someone can afford to pay $2,649.99 for a pair of binoculars, it's hard to imagine that $150 off is going to clear EO's shelves of their SFs. Hardly what I would call a "bargain."

Bargain (Per Google): A thing bought or offered for sale more cheaply than is usual or expected.

Brock ..... If you think a discussion of what constitutes a bargain, price of alphas, etc. is of interest, then please consider starting a new thread. There is no way to respond to your comments without violating the guidelines by going off topic and derailing this thread.

General comment: Let's not knock a member's posting of a sale or promotion. It may discourage that person or other members reading the post, from posting future deals that they may find. That is only to the detriment of those that enjoy and benefit from this informative thread. If the post is not of interest, then just scroll on through .......

Thanks.

When you read Kevin's original post about finding a Pentax DCF WP for $50, and his subsequent four posts, which also were about inexpensive binoculars (Celestron Ultima DX 8x32 $79.95 with free shipping; Pentax 8x40 XCF Binoculars $45 with free shipping; and Pentax 8x36 DCF HS Binoculars $130 shipped), and the many posts that follow suit including the $39 tripod recently discussed above, I don't think that Kevin was going for the strict definition of the word but rather the connotation of optics that can be had for a "song."

Kevin's OP

Even if you want to take the word literally, here's Merriam-Webster's definition definition of a bargain:

2: something bought or offered for sale at a good price <The new car was a real bargain.>

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bargain

$150 off a high price tag isn't a real bargain, at least in my opinion.

I'd rather see alpha "bargains" kept in the alpha forums, which is usually how such sales are announced, but it seems lately that alphas seep into every thread no matter what the topic. Recently, someone was discussing a $400 range bin, and another member posted that it wasn't as good as his 8x32 SV EL. Doh! I should hope not!

As Dolly can attest, you won't find alphas at The Bargain Store!

"The bargain store is open come inside, you can easily afford the price..."

Just my tuppence. ;)

Nikon Monarch 7 Instant $50 off Promotion

First ......

From the original post ...... emphasis is mine.

Consider this thread to be like the "binocular ramblings" thread as an ongoing thread to share the "best deals" you've found on the net.

Moving on ........

Nikon is back with their instant rebate program, this time offering an instant savings of $50 on Monarch 7 binoculars. (8X30, 10X30, 8X42, 10X42). The offer runs from January 1st through February 3rd, 2016. There are no coupon or code numbers. It should be reflected in an authorized Nikon dealers selling price. Be sure and compare with a couple of dealers to make sure they are aware of the promotion price.

Jerry,

There is a bit of misinformation on the Botach website. I saw the same misinformation in the product description. If you go down to the questions section at the bottom of the page then you will see I asked about this very issue.

I can confirm that the tripods do come with the appropriate plate attached.

Also, I did order a carbon fiber model since the prices have come down so much.
I must admit I did end up as confused on this. I ordered the Brunton aluminium tripod via Amazon, shipped to Australia by Botach as the seller. It did not arrive with a quick release plate. I asked Botach about this via Amazon and was told:
Order ID 110-6055002-XXXXXXX:
1 of Brunton Full Size Tubular Aluminum Tripod, with removable head [ASIN: B000P41ASW]

------------- Begin message -------------

Hello,

Unfortunately we do not advertise this as coming with a quick release plate, I apologize for the confusion if another buyer commented this, perhaps another seller offers it included but we do not. You can order it separately via Amazon if needed.

Best Regards
Jxxxxxx
Now, it may be that Amazon or other sellers via Amazon sell this with a plate (it's hard to know, since Amazon only presents me with sellers who will ship to my location; and I couldn't be bothered messing about to fake out what they might present to others).

And looking around Amazon (and Botach, and other places) it seems that the Brunton TH-PLATE quick release is now pretty much unobtainable. A Manfrotto (RC2-compatible) plate will fit but doesn't lock very securely (it's a somewhat secure friction lock, rather than a hard mechanical lock as on a Manfrotto head). Looking at online photos of the Brunton TH-PLATE it doesn't look much different - so perhaps there's no loss of function, which is OK (I guess) but not something I'd trust for a heavy camera set-up. Or, perhaps, the Brunton plate was/is subtly different enough to engage the small lug-arrangement on the Brunton head in a way the Manfrotto one does not. I guess I'll never know.

Longer term, if I wanted to make more use of the tripod I should look at fitting it with a different head that securely holds a currently-available plate. That probably makes my tripod a good deal anyway, just not quite as good as I'd thought.

I received my Brunton CF F-TPOD530-CBNR 4-section tripod w\mounting plate from Botach today. Appears to be a great bargin...well built, good dampening pivot head and easy adjust sections that lock solid. As of now, Botach still has these (318 in stock) HERE under $60-includes shipping! ;)
