Binocular bargains (5 Viewers)

Mike,

I am genuinely sorry to hear this for several reasons. For one, I did specifically ask about the plate and was told it was included...see screenshot from their website attached below. I ordered directly from Botach. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Second, my Bogen-Manfrotto plate fits perfectly on the Brunton head without any looseness. I will see if I can post a video of this tomorrow after work.

In case others haven't made it clear, I'd be really curious to hear a review of this when you get it. Also, if you could measure the length it is when collapsed that would be appreciated. Carbon fiber for that price is damn tempting.

Josh ..... Most of the discussion on the Brunton tripods is taking place in the scope forum.

The discussion originally started in Spektar Scope thread, then spawned into a new thread just for the tripods.

Here is the Spektar thread. Start with post 55, then scroll on through for more discussion.

http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=316197&page=3

Here is where the current discussion is taking place in the thread dedicated to the tripods ..........

http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=317290

The overall collapsed length of the Carbon Fiber Brunton is approximately 26.75 inches, foot pads screwed out.

See you over at the other thread!

These might be a good bargain if the seller isn't pulling any tomfoolery, Brock may even think it's OK to list them here. :king:

Yes, indeed, my good man, a drop in a new 8x32 EDG II price from the alphastratic ($2,296.95 - B&H) to the second-tierotrophic ($1,350) qualifies as a bona fide bargain.

Why, even my clerk (pr. "clark"), Bob Cratchit, might be able to afford it if I gave him overtime, which, of course, I would not. I already gave him a raise and a prize Turkey at Christmas, more than I got from Old Fezziwig!

Besides, it would upset the balance of the class system to have clerks earn more than their managers even if they do most of the work, and we mustn't have that! Before long, they'd be trying to organize unions, and it would be the end of the British Empire!

That is a fair buy. I have seen the Nikon 8x32 EDG II's go for less. They depreciate like a "rock"! My Nikon 8x32 EDG II was like new and I had to drop it to $1K to sell it. Of course I only had $800.00 in it because I had trouble with my first EDG I which I paid $800.00 for and Nikon sent me the EDG II when I sent it in for repair. The Nikon EDG's depreciate a lot because I don't think people are used to paying over $1K for a Nikon.

Dennis,

I've gone through the procedure of getting a new Nikon EDG II to replace my original EDG I. The new one came with new papers for registering it with Nikon. I could have sold it as soon as I got it and the new owner could have registered it.

The seller of these binoculars states that they are brand new in an unopened package. If that is so they should come with all the Nikon papers needed to register them. There is no explanation for why they are selling so cheaply. These are Allbinos highest ranked 8x32 binoculars per their review of them in May 2015.

Any prospective buyer should determine if the Nikon warranty on them is "in the box" so they can be registered with Nikon and if it is not whether the warranty is transferable.

Note that the seller offers a 3 year warranty from "Square Trade" for $179.99.

Bob:

Nikon has a No-Fault repair, replacement warranty, that is transferrable.

Cabala's has SEVERAL pretty good deals on binoculars right now... I stumbled on to this last night:

http://www.cabelas.com/product/hunting/optics/binoculars|/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104217480/swarovski-el-swarovision-8x32-binoculars/1624391.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fbinoculars%2F_%2FN-1100054%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104217480

That some SV 8X32s for $1699! I couldn't pass that up and had a gift card from Xmas to go with it that more than covered tax. Good deal I thought.

Some other deals...
Euro HD 10X42- $839.99 (If I didn't have so many 10X42s, I'd bite!)
Euro HD 8X32- $559.99. Bought these for $799! You'll never get this much binocular for this price.
Euro HD 10X32- $594.99
SV 8.5X42 $1899
and the SV 10X50 and 12X50 for $1999.00 as mentioned above..

If I had any money left over after Christmas I would be looking hard at that Euro HD 8x32 mentioned above. Awesome price!

Agreed! As I recall, these were one of your favorites, and they are now upgraded with ED glass for less money, a trend an old miser likes seeing. But alas, my pockets are turned inside out after Christmas, as I suspect a lot of people's are, which is probably why they are running these sales. Something to keep in mind for next year. Hold off making merry until Little Christmas like Sancho and my Ukrainian relatives, and you will save yourself tons.

I had planned on buying duck boots for Christmas but LL Bean was backordered to the tune of 100,000 pairs, so I went to Cabela's and they had their $89.99 duck boots on sale for $67.99. However, due to getting hung over at the Christmas office party (I assume), the payroll "clark" processed my paycheck late, and I didn't get it until Christmas Eve afternoon, by which time my bank was closed for the holiday, not opening again until Monday, the 28th.

On Tuesday, the 29th, I went back on Cabela's website to see if they still had my size in stock, they did and the price of the boots had dropped to $53.99! So I bought them, and they arrived two days ago on Little Christmas (Jan. 6).

The boots weren't fur lined like my $120 LL Bean duck boots were (one of which sustained a deep cut in the rubber from an old rusted fence in the backyard that I plan to remove in the spring), and Cabela's rubber is a bit thinner than Bean's, but for less than half the price, I can buy some boot socks and live with it.

I'm stuffing my pig's feet jars with quarters and marking them "Cabela's Little Christmas Optics Sale Jan. 2017."

It's been rumoured for the last three months or so that Bass Pro have been exploring a buy out of Cabelas ; a big sale may be sooner than expected.
