Binocular bargains (5 Viewers)

Mike,

I am genuinely sorry to hear this for several reasons. For one, I did specifically ask about the plate and was told it was included...see screenshot from their website attached below. I ordered directly from Botach. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Second, my Bogen-Manfrotto plate fits perfectly on the Brunton head without any looseness. I will see if I can post a video of this tomorrow after work.
Frank, there really is no problem. In fact, despite my head'n'plate trouble, based on the aluminium tripod I received I went ahead and ordered the carbon fibre one at run-out prices, in addition. My reasoning was that no matter what happened with the head or plate, the deal was good enough just for the legs. If I'd felt in any way hard done-by I'd not have proceeded with that.

As it happens, I've used it as an excuse to dip my toe into the whirlpool of Arca-Swiss heads and plates (something I've threatened myself with for some time). Note "excuse" - this was a pre-existing insanity, and everyone except me is blameless in this. Yet despite the occasional contents of my check-out cart, I have (barely) maintained sanity. I did not buy anything overly expensive. An Oben ball-head, a couple of Wimberley plates and I'm done.

I do have my eye on further things, mostly from Arca-Swiss and Kirk - but let's walk before we run, let alone fly...

...Mike

(P.S. None of which are likely to be used anywhere near a binocular or spotting scope: I've re-purposed an old Velbon tripod for that, which is more than enough for my use of the Spektar; and freed up a monopod and tripod for "better" photographic use.)

If I had any money left over after Christmas I would be looking hard at that Euro HD 8x32 mentioned above. Awesome price!

:C I'm mighty irritated that this offering occurs after I spent all my dough and forced myself to forget the Euro HD. It is the one, final bin I'd buy.

If it's true that Cabela's will be bought out, their brands will disappear as well.
This might mean that Meopta may listen to reason and offer a Meostar 8x32 with HD designation in Europe.

I'm using the regular 8x32 a lot and don't think much about the less than ideal colour representation. Still, if and when I can find a HD when I have the money, I will buy it.

It doesn't look like the new Field Pro is selling all that well, gee, I wonder if the market being flooded with last year's model at huge discount prices and having the exact same glass could have anything to do with it. ;) :-O

Looks like the new Field Pro will go for much less than retail from some of the usual Ebay sources. Will they have a warranty at that price, technically probably not, in reality probably, your guess is as good as mine. I've still got a $600 or $700 bath to take when I sell my NIB condition 10X50 after listening to them last year.

I'm not so sure, Cabela's is a well known brand name, even if Pro Bass acquires the company, they may keep the brand name on products Pro Bass doesn't sell under its name.

Here's what Pro Bass founder Johnny Morris said on CNBC about the rumors that Pro Bass is buying Cabela's.

“There’s been a lot of speculation, rumors, who knows where it will lead. It’s a great brand…We have a high regard for this company (Cabela’s).”

Worse comes to worse and Cabela's Euros disappear, it's only a matter of time before Meopta upgrades its 8x32 MeoStar to HD.

So starting saving up those 50 öres in large Surströmming cans for next January. ;)

:-O Saving in fermented herring is never as good an idea as it may seem to. It always ends up in me overeating the savings :eat:
Suppose you're right about the HD coming in Meopta loden green carried by blonde Czech elves to my chateau. Oh wait, that's another narrative 8-P

Camofire - Leica Ultravid HD 10X32

Camofire is a daily deal siate that has a very limited number of deals posted on the main page. The deals have a set period of time to be listed. It is removed at the end of that time or if sold out first. It is then replaced with a new item.

Currently posted is the outgoing model of the Leica Ultravid 10X32 HD binocular (not the new Plus version). Price is $1,329.99. I am not sure if this is an authorized Leica sale or how Leica warranty works on these types of closeouts.

The offer ends about 8:20 this morning Mountain time, 10:20 AM Eastern time, or 7:20 Pacific time, 9:20 Central time or earlier if sold out first.

Edit Thanks Arthur! Glad you are more awake than I am at this hour!

Same seller has SV 12X50 for $2099.

I saw that and copied a couple of the photos to my computer so I could get an enlarged look. The resolution degraded but it looks to be as though the box says 10X50 and the focus knob says 10X50, not 12X50 as listed in the heading. The ad text implied to me that the pictures are of the actual item for sale.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141875097782

I sent the seller an e-mail about an hour ago asking for clarification, but no response as of yet.

The best I could tell from the box label, the serial number began with 83, so that would make it a 2013 date. Again, the photo degraded quite a bit at that resolution, so I might be wrong.

One photo shows a plastic bag on the STOP brochure. Is that the camera attachment that was included a couple of years ago?

Yep... Good catch. Those binoculars say "10X50" all over them. Still a pretty good deal.

I don't know if they're authorized or not, a call to Swarovski will clear that up. They sell a ton of Swarovski product on Ebay including the new Field Pro, technically they shouldn't be able to offer some of the discounts shown on new items.
