Cabela's Canada had both grey models on sale last week for $1829.

They're sold out.

Zeiss must be clearing the shelves for the black edition nevertheless $1699 is a bargain even if it is grey 8-P

Are the specs on the older SLC 10x42 HD the same as the new version ?

28 oz.
5.7 length

Dimensionally they are the same, but the original HD weighed an ounce or two more, can't recall exactly. The focusing range is greater on the original, but within the common focusing range it's faster (about 2:1). Except for possibly newer coatings the optics are the same.

My favorite binocular, the 8x42 SLC HD, is selling here for the fantastic price of $1369.60 USD ... and you can bid lower.

Diesel79 ... To me, the prior version, which is usually referred to as the Swarovski SLC 8X42 WB HD, is the preferred choice over the current version, the Swarovski SLC 8X42 WB.

Both have Swaro HD glass, which I believe is now true for all Swaro current models, so Swaro has dropped the HD in the name.

The primary difference between the two generations are:
- The prior gen allows for a closer focus distance. About 6 feet vs 10.5 feet in a 8X.
- Armoring style and coloring.

Optically, they are considered the same. There may have been some minor changes made to accommodate the focus reengineering, but the end view should be unchanged. Some folks speculate that Swaro makes ongoing coating improvements throughout the life of a model, but I seriously doubt if there is any visual difference between the two.

Swaro models are known to have some sticking in the focus mechanisms. It varies from unit to unit. I have noticed less of that is the last year so a recent production model may be a little smoother. If it does have some sticking, the binocular can be sent to SONA for improvement under warranty.

I held out for the HD version because of the close focus and the prior armoring. Other than a possible smoother focus, I can not think of any improvements in the current generation over the prior HD model. If the price is right for you, then go for it!

It is an excellent binocular, equivalent to the Zeiss HT. It is a difficult call to say which is better between the SLC and the HT.

Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated.

Anyone else having trouble with the site-shortened links? My browser just takes me back to a blank birdforum page (?) I realize this could be my browser or a setting as it didn't do this before. Also, new laptop.

I suspect they are offered by third parties via Amazon, not by Amazon itself, and scams possibly by yet others who have hijacked the purported seller's website.
