Binocular bargains (2 Viewers)

Read post #2811, that was $1000 savings on the new black SF, is that on topic enough for you, I've posted many excellent bargains on here. The one for a dollar was obviously posted for the sake of a little humor, the other Amazon link because I find it disturbing that a company with whom I have a credit card, and use that card to buy a good bit of merchandise, would allow such (vendors) in their system. 99.9 percent of the (stuff) Amazon sells is perfectly legit, including optics, I'm surprised to see the shady ones popping up.

Try to stay on topic, just post actual products that are for sale
by dependable sellers.

The Amazon stuff is a waste of effort.

12% Off on Some Vortex at Optics Planet

Optics Planet has a coupon offer good till Nov. 30, 2016 that will get 12% off on some Vortex products. Use code VX12 at checkout.

It worked with the 10X42 and 8X42 Viper and the 8X42 Razor but it did not work with the10X42 Razor or the 8X32 Viper when I tested it. They did show an alternate coupon code to get 5% off on the models where the 12% code did not work.

The Nov 30 deadline was stated in the e-mail announcing the promotion.

I agree that too much clowning is irritating, but the SF for a dollar was absurd enough that I found it humorous. A dry, sterile delivery with little or no humor is just plain boring IMO, I do enjoy a more lighthearted delivery than some on the forum, a little fun here and there does no harm.

$80 Off Tract Tekoa (and Toric)

Tract Optics has a promotion called the Tekoa Fall Classic.

The promotion states "Save $80 on all Tekoa Products"

Promo code is TEKOA2016

Offer dates 10/21./016 - 10/25/2016

Binocular examples:

Tekoa 10X42 $464 less $80 = $384
Tekoa 08X42 $454 less $80 = $374

https://www.tractoptics.com/products/binoculars?category=10

Although the promotion only mentions the Tekoa line, testing showed that it also applied to the Toric line.

Toric 10X42 $664 less $80 = $584
Toric 08X42 $654 less $80 = $574

Cabela's - Zeiss SF 10X42 $1,899.99

Cabela's is showing limited stock of the Zeiss SF 10X42 on sale for $1,899.99. I assume that is a closeout of the grey model. That could be an especially good deal for anyone that has some Cabela bucks to apply to the purchase. Depending on your state, there may be sales tax charged.

Sorry, but no link. For some reason, the Viglink feature used by this site converts the link to an invalid Amazon link. Just Google "Cabela's Zeiss SF 10X42" to bring it up.

The 8X42 SF model is sold out.

Hi Bruce

I attempted to post these as back in stock yesterday but also got the redirected Amazon link. The ad says and shows the black model, but it makes more sense it would be a closeout on the gray model. If it's the black it makes the deal even better.

The gray 8X and 10X are both still available here at a good price.

Hi Bruce, how to tell whether it is the outgoing grey or new black armor model? Thanks.

Ganymede ..... My assumption is based primarily on the price. I just can not see them selling the new black version, which has a normal price of $2,899, for such a low price. The price indicates a closeout sale.

Another reason is that the 8X is no longer listed and the 10X shows limited stock. That indicates to me they are clearing out the prior version in preparation for the new black version. They did the same with the old Swaro EL SV models that were replaced with the Profield versions.

The web page for the 8X42 shows Sold Out rather than Out of Stock.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/camp.../Ns-CATEGORY_SEQ_104217480?recordsPerPage=108

Other dealers were selling the grey version for a similar price.

The differences between the original grey version and the new black version are small. The biggest is the color difference. Another change is a new eye cup that added another intermediate position. However, the new cup also fits the grey version. There was also some discussion that there were some small tweaks the focus, but nothing specific. I have not seen any comments that the optics were changed. I personally like the grey.

I would not put much stock in the photos. Vendors mess that up all the time. Even vendors that specialize in optics seem to have a hard time getting the photos and specs correct. The photo being used by Cabela's is not the best and I can not tell for sure what color it is.

Hope that helps.

Camo 42mm Zeiss Terra Binoculars -Red Hawk

Red Hawk Rifles is also having a closeout on camo Zeiss Terra 42mm binoculars.

Zeiss Terra 8X42 Camo for $269

https://redhawkrifles.com/products/...eiss/closeout-zeiss-ed-terra-8x42mm-lost-camo

Zeiss Terra 10X42 Camo for $299

https://redhawkrifles.com/products/...iss/closeout-zeiss-ed-terra-10x42mm-lost-camo

For comparison purposes, B & H Photo and Eagle Optics are selling the black 8X42 for $400 and the 10X42 for $450. There is currently a Zeiss $50 mail-in rebate (expiring Nov 19th) on the black model of the 10X42.

Here is Bob's excellent thread on the Terra.

http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=258748

Most of the discussion is on th 8X but I have both and consider the 10X to be of equivalent quality, which is very good and more than worth the sales price.

That they are!

I missed out on the first go-around of this Zeiss SF close out sale by a few hours and was told no more were expected. However I kept checking and in between checks, SuperDuty's post showed up. Since my mind was made up at this point, I ordered it without additional thought.

Red Hawk had five more Zeiss SF 8X42 units in route and I believe the same in the 10X42. Due to no fault of Red Hawk but due to UPS delays going to and from Red Hawk, mine arrived two days ago.

Red Hawk was new to me but it turns out they are a large Zeiss retailer, much more to the hunting crowd than the birding community. It was a pleasure to deal with them and I would do it again. They even included a Zeiss cleaner with my order.

From my research, I was told that Zeiss incorporated the focus tweaks in the last of the gray models. I can not tell by looking, but this newly arrived 8X42 is a bit smoother than my older 10X42 SF. This is new stock being received by Red Hawk so the odds are good that the units will have the minor focus tweaks.

The eye cups are the three position original version. However the newer four position cups should ultimately be attainable from Zeiss and are supposed to be a direct screw-in replacement.

So far the 8X42 SF has been every bit as good as expected and the 444 ft field of view is spectacular! The 8X42 Zeiss SF is my choice for best all around birding binocular due to the balance, wide field, sharp edges and ergonomics. My only caution would be that I do detect just the beginnings of rolling ball, which might be much more of an issue for some individuals.

Red Hawk is running a Veterans Day promotion of $100 off using the code 100OFF (zero, zero, letter "O") that may possibly work today only.

Smoking good price on a smoking good binocular!

Just to clarify, my above post was primarily about the 8X42 but the close out is on both the 8X42 and the 10X42 Zeiss SF.

08X42 https://redhawkrifles.com/products/...eiss/zeiss-sf-victory-8x42mm-t-fl-binocular-0

10X42 https://redhawkrifles.com/products/...iss/zeiss-sf-victory-10x42mm-t-fl-binocular-0

8X42:
- $1,749.00 - #524221 gray model close out price before any discount codes
- $2,849.00 - #524223 price of the new black version at B & H Photo

10X42
- $1,799.99 - #524222 gray model close out price before any discount codes
- $2,899.99 - #524224 price of the new black version at B & H Photo

The differences between the two versions are the gray vs black armor, a small focus tweak (but the new grays may have it), and one more position in the eye cup (which can easily be upgraded on the gray model).

Thanks Z6 for the original posting and thanks SuperDuty for the updates.
