No mention of the Excursions having Phase Correction like the Pentax; which may not be as critical at 8x. Their wide FOV is attractive though. Probably not as sturdily built as the Pentax either. My Pentax 9 x 28 has first class construction.

Well now! I guess Optics Planet got information that Eagle Optics didn't get! But, you recall, I have complained here about Eagles "new look" website.

I checked out the 9x28 Pentax again. This time against my trusty old 8x32 EO model. They could not show me any more detail than the 8x32, and color was not so great on the mourning dove.

Possibly the 9x36 will show me something more, have not given up on 9x. Except the 9x25 reverse porros. They have become useless.

The store had 8x32 Pentax DCF. At 8x, I do not need no stinking ED glass, they were fine. Trouble is, I have two 8x32 already. I hate selling bins, I just keep them if they have any use at all.

Did you get your 9x36 Vortex Diamondbacks yet? I seem to remember April/May being mentioned as the anticipated delivery date.

Not expected till end of month. I'm good to travel with my trusty old EO 8x32s, but I often take a second pair, a 10x42, if there is open country.

The Legend 8x32s have now become extras with little use. Not sure why. Just what I am used to I guess. Six warblers today, I needed the wide field of the 8x32s. The porros I have were at home.

Amazing new binocular on eBay UK for £69.99, the innovative Nikula 8x42, which has the unique feature of being "water and frog proof". Intended for use underwater by frogmen? Well, so I've been toad...

Which smaller Pentax Tero?

I am wrestling with picking up another 8x32 SP to use strictly for close-in warbler watching. I have one of the Legend 8x32s on order from Astronomics but I am not sure if the image quality is going to suit me still.

It is the SP regular 8x32. I can't tell it from ED really, I need 10x to see a difference most times. It was a price I could not refuse.

EO 8x32 is going for sale. Will keep Legend 8x32 for now. Very similar to the Pentax. Both have some CA for those that can't stand any.

I may be giving up on 9x. I just need to get one more 10x.

"Of course you do!" He counseled calmly. "Close your eyes. Relax! Breathe slowly and calmly. Visualize this picture in your mind! A Nikon 10 x 32 LX L floating in the ether above you! Nirvana! Peace forever." :king:

Well, I need to leave something to save up for, once the economy recovers fully. ;)
The 10x32 Viper is still a contender as well. But I do think I prefer the 8x Vipers to the 10x. The 8x are so eye glass friendly.

Ah, I am envious. I found a good deal on the 8x32 SP that I may follow through with. I received the 8x32 Legends today and I am disappointed. I love the size and build quality. What I don't like is the fast focus. Just like the 8x33 XP it is just too fast for my current tastes.

How does the Legend focus speed compare to the SP focus speed Tero?

Ah, one is in the car..which my wife has. But the Pentax SP 8x32 goes 1 and 1/2 turns overall. And it goes counterclockwise to infinity. My 10x42 does the same. Mama Bear and Papa Bear.

I was OK with the 8x32 Legends, in good light the focus does not need to be exact.

That seems slower than the Legend. I think I could live with it.

For the time being though I have given up on the 8x32 direction. I have decided to invest the money in a different direction.

More to follow.

The Legend goes a revolution and a tiny bit more, end to end. So it is faster than the SP focus. But I used both today. Both were good for warblers. In fact the Legend 8x42 porro really did not beat them in the woods on a partly cloudy day.

But not all of that distance is "real focusing range".

I measured and posted quite a few numbers for 10 feet (3 meteres) to infinity (what I think of as typical birding distances).

Of course the thread is still needing Sawro, Leica, Meopta, Nikon etc, etc numbers amongst others (it takes about 2 minutes to make the measurement!).

For Pentax SP this is covered in 0.6 turn. They're quite quick focus. I rather like the rate and the tension. About half the speed of the Swift Eaglets. And twice as quick as the Chinese EDs or the old Swaro EL.
