Binoculars seen in France (1 Viewer)

No, every single of them had binoculars (in the x30-50 range, very few compacts). The bird was easy to see, so all had already gotten good looks through bins and scopes and those with cams now are trying to get good pictures.
My apologies. I meant to say that their priorities in spending were probably weighted towards camera gear than binoculars. The camera setups in your photo may not be in the (financial) league of the guy who takes wonderful photos of boxes, but would probably, and probably comfortably, exceed the cost of a very good (sub-alpha or ex-alpha) birding binocular.

I agree. But I think this does reflect the cost of these tools rather than the priorities of use. For a binocular that is good enough to do the job for a keen birder, you need perhaps 500-1000 EUR, for a camera that is good enough (to reliably take good record shots in challenging situations and the occasional beautiful shot) you need to spend 1500-3000 EUR at least.
