Binos with sturdy eyecups (1 Viewer)

The eyecups on my Pentax SD 8x42 WP have broken, after only two years of use, this is the second pair of Pentax to which it happens (first one was a pair of DCF 8x36 IIRC), and I'm a little peeved...

I've sent them to the reseller for repairs, but it's still unclear whether the warranty will cover it (they're waiting for an answer from Pentax, it says "30 year warranty" on the box, but not sure if this applies to optics only).

In the meantime, I am thinking about upgrading (I was very impressed with a pair of Swarovski that a friend let me try on a safari last summer), and I would like to find a pair that has more durable eyecups, if that is a brand (or price range ?) problem.
I'll grant that I have not always treated them with kid's gloves, and I wonder if it might also have been caused by fine sand getting inside the grooves.

I'm looking potentially for an 8x42 in the mid-range to high-range (I would look for the latter second-hand), among those models :
Vortex Viper or Razor, Nikon Monarch 7, Zeiss Terra ED or Conquest (and maybe Zeiss Victory and Swarovski EL 8.5x42).

Besides the eyecup issue, as I often bird in humid environments, with large variations in temperature, fog and water proofing is also very important to me - I can't say that I was happy on that point with my Pentax binos until now, either.

Which among the above models would have the sturdier eyecups, and excellent fog and water proofing ?
And which would have the best warranty coverage if such an issue arose again ?
If I was to buy one second-hand, without the original receipt, are there manufacturers who offer lifetime warranty which would still be valid ?

Thanks in advance for your help ! :)

Nicolas,
My suggestion: Swaro EL (SV or FP) have the best eyecups of the bino set that you mentioned, and also the best warranty (but only 10y in the EU). Nikon EDG also have fantastic eyecups (imo better than even Swaro's) but Nikon warranty leaves something to be desired (in particular it is not transferable)
Peter

Thanks Peter.

I've had a quick look at our second-hand market here, and there are Swaro EL 8.4x42 for under 1000€, but I'm confused about what version they are.
Have there been many versions over the years, and how do they differ from one another ?
I can get an idea of how much I want to pay for a second-hand copy of the last model, compared to new retail price, but I worry about paying over the odds for an older one of which I don't know the market value.

If I remember correctly the only significant change has been the way the strap attaches to the binocular body.
Ask the seller for pictures and the year of manufacture - that sh tell you everything you need to know.

OK, I think I've made sense of the three (it seems) versions that came out, the last one being denominated WB, with the new strap attachment.
Strangely one significant difference is that the minimum focusing distance has increased from 5 to 11ft (roughly), that's a bit strange

If you want sturdy eye cups, try the Fujinon HC 8x42. They are ALL steel except for the VERY edge and when it is cold they will freeze to your eye sockets!

Ha ha, OK, maybe I'll pass on that one :)

I've done a bit more research and right now it looks like this is my available 8x42 shortlist (unfortunately the sub-1000€ EL 8.5x42 2nd version seem to have disappeared) :

. GPO Passion ED for 429€ new

. Opticron Imagic BGA VHD for 380€ ex demo

. used Meopta Meopro HD for 330€

. used Kite Bonelli 2.0 for 700€-ish

(. I've see a new Meopta B1.1 for 860€... but they're heavy 😅)

Any comments ?

Review Kite Ibis 8×42 ED – Binoculars Today

I just looked at the Ibis 5 minutes ago ! ;)
Thanks for the link to the review, I hadn't find any yet. Their new price here is 700€ I think.
However I'm in France and I'm not sure I could have them delivered here

So I went for the second-hand Kite Bonelli 2.0 which I had found, just received them.
The construction looks a lot more solid than my Pentax (which I've sent for repairs, so I can't compare image quality yet), the three click positions of the eyepiece is really nice - I use the middle one for most comfortable view.
The diopter wheel isn't lockable but it's tighter, and placed so, that it doesn't look like it'll get knocked out of position as often as with my previous pair.
Pretty satisfied so far ! :)
