Bird Families List - Clements v2019 vs. IOC 11.1 (1 Viewer)

Many birders are hesitant about which taxonomy to use. My personal bird families list, may be 4 ticks longer if I use the IOC, but I choose Clementes to be compatible with eBird, which seems to be the leading birding database.

That's very helpful thanks! I'd have thought being Israel based you'd have gone for IOC in order to add Streaked Scrub Warbler ...one of only four monospecific families I have in my families list and dating from a trip to Israel back in 1978 (the others are bearded reedling, ibisbill and oilbird).

I find taxonomy in flux useful. There is also the Howard and Moore checklist, which may make a useful comparison.

They are the checklist that has split apart Furnariidae into three families and Tyrannidae into five families

Thanks KB57! where are you based? The other wide distributed Palearctic monotype family is Wallcreeper

I can see that Clements Sharpbill, Royal Flycatcher, and Allies (Oxyruncidae) is also spit to 2:
Oxyruncidae Sharpbill
Onychorhynchidae Royal Flycatchers and allies. On the other hand 19 Clements families are missing in H&M . New website page for it is online now.

That might soon be three such families. Re Streaked Scrub Warbler, Bergier et al 2013 document vocal differences between the eastern & western groups, as do Schweizer 2020 and van den Berg & The Sound Approach 2020. IOC11.1 puts the proposed split into the 'inactive' category, presumably awaiting further data.

I'm based in UK, but despite a few attempts in Switzerland, have yet to see a wallcreeper...I guess this should be high on my list to put right once we are free to travel again!

Do a couple of weeks in Nepal, there's one around almost every corner on many treks.

This isn't making me feel any better Andy...I've done the Annapurna circuit and Langtang valley and failed to see a single wallcreeper!

Go to Picos de Europa in June. Impossible to miss them. And there's a cable car so no walking uphill needed! Damn sight closer than Nepal too 😂

We even saw a couple behind the Peace pogoda in Pokhara.
