Bird finding challenges (1 Viewer)

Clubs have used bird finding challenges to entice members to get out and find birds. These range from Big Days, County Listing, Century Runs, and the like. I remember a trip to Pt. Pelee, Ontario where we got a pin for finding and reporting 100 species or more for our trip. What are some of the runs that you know of? And were there any token awards such as certificates, hat badges, patches?

Hi Rich and welcome to BirdForum from all staff and moderators. There used to be something similar in Glamorgan. Not sure if it’s run for a few years though. Never took part but wouldn’t mind if it restarted.

There is usually (covid permitting) a Cumbria Bird race.

Never done it. But have done informal ones with groups of friends. I remember a New Years Day one a Titchwell, split into to groups of four each one hour start and finish in the café. Got 76 species in an hour.
