Bird of Prey ID? Gambia, Gunjur Area, Feb 2019 (1 Viewer)

Hi Everyone,

I've just returned from my first ever visit to The Gambia and hope to get help with identifying a bird of prey I saw whilst near the coast in southern Gambia, near Gunjur. I saw quite a lot of raptors there, and managed to ID all but this one.

It was quite high up and circling, using the thermals and rarely flapping. I suspect it to be a type of snake eagle, but having shown the pictures I took to two separate birders locally, I was given two different IDs and no-one seemed quite sure.

I've attached the pictures from several different angles with this post. Unfortunately I never got a chance to see it from above or the side. I hope they'll be of help.

Any ID will be greatly appreciated - I'd love to know what it might be.

Thanks in advance,

Duskyjay :)

Thanks for your quick response! I've been puzzling over this for quite a while. I'll look up Beaudouin's and Brown snake eagles and see if I can make headway. Thanks for your help :)
