At first glance this looked liked a Kestrel, but it was much bigger than your stand Kestrel size, at least 50% bigger, especially during flight. Could it be anything else other than a Kestrel?

Thanks all. I thought it was a Kestrel but I think Rockfowl is right, winter plumage made it so much bigger. Thanks for the comments. I followed her around for ages trying to get a decent shot.

Against the snow, birds tend to look larger because of the contrast - it may be a bit fluffed up with the cold too. (which is what probably 'winter conditions' refers to)

Lovely photo!

What a beautiful photo. This isn't JUST a kestrel, as a following poster says - no bird can be JUST a anything! It's brilliant, David.
