Bird of the Day - Golden-crowned Kinglet! (1 Viewer)

I finally saw a Golden-crowned Kinglet today!
My office is in an urban forest (called Forest Park), so I walk in the woods every day. Merlin always picks up the call of Golden-crowned Kinglets, but I haven't been able to spot one. Today a bird was flitting in the trees outside my office window. I grabbed my binoculars and, sure enough, it had the tell-tale crown with black stripes on either side. It was so cute.

I know it isn't the most exciting, exotic bird ever. But for me it was a long-awaited sighting!
Next challenge: bring the camera and get a photo! :)

What was your bird of the day?

... I also heard the very clear call of the Pacific Wren, and may have seen it hiding in the brambles, but I'm still holding out for a better view.

Follow up: I just saw a Ruby-crowned Kinglet just outside my window - no binocs required! I was too busy watching it to snap a photo.
(Also saw the golden-crowned again).
I love my new office! 😍

Well, now I see a Golden-crowned Kinglet every day! Today's surprise was my avatar - a Pileated Woodpecker. Got some video; will clean it up and post.
Also got a nice close-up view of a Chestnut-backed Chickadee.
Today I'm working from home and added a Stellar's Jay and a Cedar Waxwing to my 2025 list.
