Incredible! There are birds that Chris hasn't seen? Has he seen a reef-heron? ;)

So much work, so little time...so let's go birding

LOL, you guys! Just remember that I'm 43 and I've been birding for at least 25 years.

I have seen a Western Reef-Heron - the one that was in Nova Scotia last summer that later showed up in Maine & New Hampshire (and no doubt the same one that was seen again this year in New York and New Jersey):

The burning question is whether this west African population of reef-heron is really a reef-heron at all, since some believe that it is more closely related to or conspecific with Little Egret. Either way, it's a great North American tick.

has he seen a Green Violet-ear?

I've seen hundreds of these in the tropics, but I have yet to see one in the ABA area, so this is a good grip-off Storm-Petrel! Where did you see yours?

Chris

I saw mine in Bastrop, Texas. there was one that left on june 14 but had been staying there 9 weeks. an immature male that slowly molted its adult plumage. i got views of it through a scope that were amazing! it was only 3 hours from my house, so i couldnt resist becoming a dirty twitcher for a day O:)
