Bird ringing trainer Greater Manchester / Lancashire (1 Viewer)

Hi,
My name is Alice and I am a recent graduate of marine biology and zoology. I have recently taken part in a couple of taster bird ringing sessions and would like to train to ring birds, however I need to find a ringing trainer in my area.
Does anyone on this forum have an S-permit and is in the Wigan / Greater Manchester / Lancashire area. I don’t mind a little commute but I am really struggling to find a trainer who has time and availability to train me.
If anyone on this forum can point me in the right direction or has the details of a trainer I can contact it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Alice

Alice,

I'm afraid it's become more difficult to find a BTO trainer as some have removed themselves from the online 'map' following concerns about revised procedures. If you don't get a reply to your post, your best bet is to chat to a local ringer who will know the trainers in your area.

HTH, Phil

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the response! Yes it’s been quite challenging to find a trainer so far, I’ve gotten in contact with a few local trainers however they are currently full with trainees or a little too far out for me to commute. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping someone will have a space open up to train me!

Thanks again for getting in contact,
Alice

Good advice. I knew a guy who got his licence thru residential volling at an Obs. 🙂👍
Yes, I am considering contacting the RSPB and BTO directly for any volunteering opportunities. I think I’ll just do whatever I can and contact all bird organisations in the mean time, even if it takes another year to find a trainer I’m pretty determined🤣🤞🏼
