Bird song or mammal sound ? (1 Viewer)

Hello all

We live in South Yorkshire and hear this sound during the day, for the last 5 years
We have been trying to figure out what bird it may be (or mammal)
Can anyone help identify it? Don’t have pictures, we only ever hear it (amongst all the other birds we see and hear, we’ve never actually seen it)
The sound is like a cat or puppy yelling/crying
We have no neighbours so assume it’s not a dog or a cat

Driving us insane trying to figure it out

Where I live there are ground squirrels that sound very much like a bird. I could hear their calls and yet Merlin could not identify the "bird".

I have gradually come to realize that I am in part responsible for an evolution in squirrel intelligence as they plot to overcome my efforts to keep them from the feeders.
