Bird sounds, Swindon UK (1 Viewer)

This was recorded this morning in a bit of woodland in Swindon. Hope the sound has survived being converted to mp3 format. I can hear a chiffchaff in there, but at intervals there's a short trilling sound followed by a whoop. At the time, the two seemed to be coming from different places, although I wouldn't swear that I can trust my hearing on that.

We're talking urban woodland so this is likely to be something very common and reasonably tolerant of people.

Heard a Jay making a similar sound - took me a while to track it down.

That might well be it. There were certainly jays in the woodland. I've never heard one make a noise remotely like this before. Thanks.

This must be the season for Jays to play at ”singing” - this morning, very early, heard a two tone whistle “whee-yoo“ in the woods beside our house. It fooled me for a few seconds into thinking it was human in origin - but turned out to be a Jay again. I think they are capable of producing a wide variety of sounds - including some quite melodic ones - shame they usually sound like a coffee grinder!
