Had a new work tick last weekend, when an at first unidentified pair of ducks turned out to be Mandarin when I was able to track them down.

Hey up folks, only birds of note today were 4 Curlew overhead. Still no migrants. Although you could call the Curlews migrants, as they were undoubtedly on their way back to their moorland breeding grounds.

cheers

Andy.

Site Tick!

Hey up folks, finally nailed a TUFTY today after gettin' on for six years. A male and female on the fishin' pool with local Mallards, Canadas and moorhens. Still no migrants but signs of activity in a few of the box's. Several had a lining of moss and a little grass.

cheers

Andy.

Finally.

Hey up folks, finally managed a couple of migrants around the place, singing Chiffchaff and Willow Warblers in the last two days. Oooh, things are lookin' up at last.

cheers

Site Tick!

Hey up folks, had the second site tick in recent weeks when a Kingfisher flew right in front of me as i made my way back across the yard:eek!:. A much better sight than yellow diggers.

Soddin' hell folks, i can't believe it! Just puttin' me notes on Birdtrack and realised that the Coot on the fishin' pool was a site tick as well! Two ticks in one day, it's all to much. Time for a lie down me thinks.

cheers

Andy.

Great thread Andy! I've only just come across it. Working from home I have a fabulous view on two side of my desk across open fenland and my front garden (garden list 128 species). I've noticed that when I'm head down working I see FA until . . . I use the phone. On the phone I'm no longer staring at a screen but free to let my eyes roam taking in both window views. Today is an excellent example. A phone call from a mate this morning and whilst chatting away I noticed the Lapwings mobbing a raptor i nth distance to find it was a ring-tailed Hen Harrier. So moral of the story - ring more people rather than email!

Hey up Steve, cheers for that pal. That's some garden list.

Neil, have you seen the perry yet?

Andy already knows, but thought I'd add a note on this thread. I work at BT, and the peregrines are on top of the exchange - getting great views from office and hope to scope a few shots...

I've been popping up and having a look whenever I'm passing but not managed to see the perry yet. However, it could be because I'm not actually sure what building the exchange is :eek!: Dunno if I should ask this here, but is it the actual BT (smaller, brown) building or the tall white one next to it? Feel free to ignore/laugh/curse me for asking it, but I thought it might help if I knew where to focus. If it is better done by PM or not at all then just let me know.

I go birding around Keele quite a lot in lunch hours so I'll update this thread with what I see next week.

Hey up folks, finally had a Whitethroat today. Very little else of note as far as migrants are concerned.

More redundancies announced today, so might be havin' a change of scenery soon with a bit of luck;)

cheers

Site Tick!

Hey up folks, a reeling Grasshopper warbler was a nice surprise today, didn't see it though so i think i'll be at work a bit earlier tomorrow, to try and see it.

Also a Sand Martin with a couple of swallows was another year tick.

Four site ticks recently, Osprey would be nice over the pool!3:)

cheers

Groppin' Mad.

Hey up folks, got to work early today to try and see yesterdays gropper. As soon as i got near to where it was yesterday it kicked in reelin', almost as if it had been waitin' for an audience! Only managed very brief views though, hopefully it will hang around and find a bit of Locustellian skirt;).

It was still reelin' at snappin' time but stopped as soon as the rain started comin' down. Also still one whitethroat on site.

cheers

Andy.

Lesser'throat.

Hey up folks, Lesser'throat singin' this mornin' as i enjoyed cripplin' views of the Gropper before work. Also Whitethroat and willow warbler on site.

Checked me box's this a'noon, not bad either. Eight pairs of Great Tits, seven pairs of blue tits and another thirteen boxs with the beginnings of a nest. Not bad eh! And all made from scrap wood collected round the site.

cheers

Andy.

Hey up folks, the Groper3:) is still singin' away behind the factory and it looks like its done the trick. While he was singin' i was watchin' another bird quietly perched in the hedge. Could this be the piece of Locustellian skirt he's after?

cheers

Andy.

Hey up, it's a Wheatear!

Hey up folks, finally managed a Wheatear today at work. Around six weeks later than normal! The Grasshopper Warbler was reelin' away again and showin' superbly as well, so not bad for a twenty minute break.

cheers

Andy.

Sign of the times!

Hey up folks, not a good day today. Several good mates have bit the bullet job wise !!!! So we had to say "ta ra" in the normal fashion. So if me spellin's a bit off you know why.B :)B :)

Not all bad though, snappin' time produced a glut of birds. First Swift of the year, plus wheatear, whitethroat and a reelin' gropper still! Not bad for twenty minutes eh?

cheers

Andy.

Different birds

I come from Carlisle but now I live outside Houston, Texas. (Don't ask why we moved here.) I work on a college campus that has some grass and trees, plus some ponds, so I see quite a few birds during coffee breaks and when walking between buildings.

Ten minutes this morning produced:
Purple Martins
Western Kingbirds
Great Egret
Great Blue Heron
Green Heron
Yellow-crowned Night Heron
Black-bellied Whistling Ducks
Red-tailed Hawk
Loggerhead Shrike
Northern Mockingbirds
Northern Cardinals
Mourning Doves
Killdeer
Eastern Meadlowlarks
Common Grackles
Great-tailed Grackles
Brown-headed Cowbirds
Red-winged Blackbird.

Having so many birds around makes it hard to work. It was really hard last week because migration brought in lots of Orioles and Wood Warblers.

How'd you follow that?

Hey up folks, after readin' Jeffs post my meagre offerings hardly seem worth the effort involved to press the keys!:-C

Still, might as well bother now i'm here. Sadly not a single yank goodie was on offer today so i had to settle for 3 Wheatears:t:

cheers

Andy.

Pulling the thread away from Staffs for a bit where I work down in Berkshire (just outside Reading) while i was gazing out of the window instead if working on Wednesday and again this afternoon had a RED KITE cruising past the window. Wednesday;s sighting was best as it was really close and the sun shone on it's back and really made it glow.

Strangely it doesn't bring out the nearby crows that the (probable) resident buzzard does. We have some interesting woods in the company grounds and a short walk away (slightly different direction from the pub unfortunately) is a super walk with low shrubs, woodland and glades. In theory it has lots of potential. But I had to mention the KITE.

Hey up folks, crippling views of the now seemingly resident pair of Groppers, also a new whitethroat on territory.

cheers

Andy.
