Hi all I'm back in the UK now but just wanted to say thanks to all for your help. I hope to come back one day just to do some birding, the wrestling took up so much time I didn't get much birding done. I walked the Buffalo Bayou most mornings in Houston. It wasn't too great but I did find a Lincoln's Sparrow, 9 Chimney Swifts, White-winged Doves (a lifer), 8+ late Cedar Waxwings, my first live Opossum and a couple of new butterflies, one I think was Baltimore and the other a Skipper which I photographed and have yet to identify. On Monday we went to Galveston and then High Island. The former was very cold and the latter time was far too short. Under a freeway bridge near Exit 14 of the I45 was three Cliff Swallows? a birder said they would be Cliff and not Cave there, but as we couldn't stop I couldn't be sure. 11 Ibis flew over at Gilchrist which I presume would be White-faced and not Glossy but they didn't land. High Island was excellent and it was nice to see a few species in fresh summer plumage, which I had previously only seen in the Fall. Summer Tanagers and Indigo Buntings were particularly colourful. Orchard Orioles - a male and a first-summer male - were new to me. Other highlights included a Clapper Rail which flew across a pond, Hooded Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo, Orange-crowned Warblers, 1+ Purple Martin, Green Heron and Broad-winged Hawk. Tuesday I did Glenwood Cemetery and Memorial Park but again time was tight. I was surprised to find Carolina Chickadee at both sites as it isn't in Sibley's Western Birds. Summer plumaged Pine Warbler at Memorial Park was nice, and a greyish warbler with double white wing bars was one that got away although it could have been a dull Butterbut, I couldn't see the rump. Frustrations apart from the lack of birding time was the number of raptors that went unidentified from the car. Thanks again and I hope to come back soon
