Been to huntley quarry tonight wet night not much about had a good view
of 3 or 4 young sand martins at the entrance to there hole been fed by the parents it would have made a real good photo opportunity for Ken .
Also down on the filta bed a little grebe with 2 chicks and a lap wing trying to lead me away from her nest or brood so i left them in peace .

three ravens over dimmingsdale this morning

Back from my birding on the Isle of Sheppey Kent. Met up with Terry yesterday, he showed me around the woods and paths of Dimminsdale as I had only been round the Ramblers area. What a great area, I shall be having a good look in the future. If I don't appear on the forum for a while I'm proberly lost around the Dimminsdale area.
HAPPY BIRDING ALL

I took a walk round Dimmingsdale this afternoon. Most birdsong seems to be quietening down now. No sign of any Pied Flycatchers, from my experience as soon as the young fledge they're off.

But I did see a Spotted Flycatcher along the track from Ramblers Retreat to Earls Rock house. Plus good views of Grey Wagtail and Blackcap.

I thought you meant me Graham, not to worry. Looks like you had a good day at Cotten Dell.

You have all the luck Terry, shame you missed out on a photo.

I took a walk in the Flash area today. No sign of Ring Ouzel this time, probably easier to see in the spring anyway. No sign of Twite or Whinchat either.

I did see a pair of Red Grouse, a couple of Wheatear, a few Curlew, and a Dipper in the river Dane by the waterfall, towards Three Shire Heads.

Took a walk round Huntley this evening. Still some Sand Martins around, and a flock of about 30 Linnets. Quite a lot of toadlets hopping around as well.

Also a very brief Kingfisher from the River Tean over the bridge at Huntley.

Had a run round in the car this morning not a lot about except for a good view of a Peregrine at the viewpoint by the Queens pub at Croxden quarry.
It was sheltering in a hole in the cliff face straight across from the view point

Saw my first Green Woodpecker of the year at Huntley.(2 adults & 2 juveniles).

Can't Stop
Just a quick enquiry ....... has anyone seen twite up on the moors this last 3 or 4 years ? Used to get them at Knotbury but none of my mates has had one and was wondering if they've totally gone from our area ( 3 shires ) ?

Not seen them up there for about 3 years now like you, so probably no longer present.

Hello Terry

You usually get a few Oystercatchers around Blithfield. I'm not sure if they nest. If they did, not sure how successful they would be.

How is the water level looking? I bet it's full after all the rain. Need some exposed mud in Tad and Blithe bays for some passage waders.

Rudyard - Feeders - Walking South Towards Leek

Sat 14th July 14.00
Parking up on a sunny Saturday afternoon, by the Rudyard garage on the
A523, Tina and I took a little walk around the feeder path, heading South towards Leek.
Unfortunately it proved a quiet afternoon, with (apart from common water birds, tits and finches) only Hirundine, Heron, Sedge and Willow Warbler, Kingfisher and Spotted Fylcatcher were willing to show.
Butterflies seen included:
Small Tortoiseshell, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Small and Large White.
One or two Common blue damselfies were darting about and grass hoppers singing.
This little two mile circular walk however, which takes in the Minature Railway station, is not to be underestimated at any time of year, here is a list of birds that we have seen over the past five years :
In Spring/Summer:
Bullfinch,Reed Bunting,Spottedflycatcher, Redstart and Yellow Hammer
Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiff Chaff, Sedge, Willow and Wood Warbler
Common Buzzard, Sparrow Hawk, Kestrel, Little and Tawny Owl
Lapwing, Curlew, Meadow Pipit and Sky Lark
Odd passage waders on herons marsh, have included Greenshank, Redshank and Little Ringed Plover.
Common gulls
In Autum/WinterTeal, Wigeon,Goosander and Crested grebe
Redpoll, Fieldfare and Redwing
Likely Any time :
Kingfisher,Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker
Goldcrest, Finches, Linnet and Siskin
Treecreeper and Nuthatch
Grey and Pied Wagtails
Thrushes, Corvids, Snipe, Heron and Pheasant

That'll confuse a few people. I don't think there's a thread for local slang! I'm still looking (with emphasis on the "oo", as opposed to lucking!) at this thread, just haven't been anywhere to report anything.
