Jason,

Mart and I were discussing this the other day. Male definitely mounted her several times, but we're still waiting. Male is the real deal, but female seems to lack experience.

Goldfinch

Think we have nesting Golfinch in the garden. Bonus!!! Now I know the location of the Corn Buntings at High Offley, might have a go for them today. If memory serves me right there has been Quail up there in the past too, nice addition to the year list.

Cheers
Craig

sedge warbler and swift new for my year list. sedge warbler in the usual reeds at berryhill, while looking at it i saw a large bird disappear over the hill, so i had to sprint up a near vertical face to find out it was.....a buzzard, not the osprey i had hoped for. but while looking at the buzzard picked up two swifts, so well worth the effort. plenty of whitethroats knocking about, not many chiffchaffs, few willow warblers and a couple of blackcaps. couldn't pick up any lesser whitethroats or gaden warblers, but saw 5 wheatear down by the pallets.

the robins took all of 2 minutes to find the mealworms, hopefully the starlings will stick to the fat balls and not find the mealworms or they will cost me a fortune.

Not sure if this is already know to anyone on here, but I have heard on the grapevine that Huntley Quarry is going to be turned into a golf course/complex. The source it came from said it had already been passed, so it looks like we will be losing the sand martins for good, unless they find somewhere else on the site. Neil.

Hi All

Managed to get out of the house for an hour this afternoon so had a quick walk around Hanchurch from the lower car park. Walking down the main track we had quite a large flock of Cross Bill fly over must have been around 15 birds at least. All had a Heron, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler. Was just nice to get out of the house.

Hope to do a proper days birding tomorrow.

Tim.

Red Kite

Saw a Red Kite flying north over Stoke this morning at 9.15 - just driving past the Incinerator at Sideway and thought it looked wrong for a buzzard. Leapt out, got bins on it - then who should walk up the other side of the road but Rob1991. Both enjoyed a Staffs tick - and about time too for me :t:

Wood Wobblers.

Hey up folks, a good hour round hawksmoor produced 3 redstarts, 1 tree pipit, 1 pied fly',1 redpoll, 2 willow warblers, 2 chiff's, 3 blackcaps, 1 curlew overhead and 2 superb singing wood wobblers! For me, thee best british woodland bird by a mile.

Nice one with the Kite lads, funnily enough mad malc thought he had one from the car yesterday as we came towards bury bank near the Darlastan Inn. But we couldn't relocate it when we turned round.

Good news, the missus is still here:t: Right where's me bins?;)

cheers

Andy.

hi guys not been able to get out much this last two weeks with work commitments ,plus the wife being in hospital, only managed a couple of trips up berryhill and westport ,nice to bump into some other members of the forum though ,russell, adam, etc trying to increase my collection of warblers being as though i have not been at this for very long seen sedge warbler at berryhill and sedge and reed warbler at westport yesterday, still have not managed a gropper yet ,heard them but not seen them, they are elusive little buggers arent they !!.just on the subject of red kites i was out at shallowford near stone last saturday with work and as i was driving towards stoke i was convinced i had seen a kite as well being mobbed by some seagulls but i could not turn round as i was in a hurry did not know they had come this far but i am positive it was a kite..

regards to all on the site ,might get up to berryhill early tomorrow to try for a whinchat ,would be another first for me...

Apedale Country Park/Whitmore/Hanchurch

Cuckoo at the bottom of Watermills
2 X Sedge Warblers as you go in the park from Apedale road.
A number of Whitethroats and a *Possible* Lesser Whitethroat from the same area.
Female Blackcap
Plenty of Willow warblers in the plantation and Chiffchaffs skirting the wood.

Whitmore
4 Herons in the left field as you turn to the fisheries along with a small herd of Fallows laying up. Some heavily pregnant Does amongst them. GSW in the dead trees. Mallard a 7 very young chicks crossing the lane. The LTT's nest in the hedgerow has been attacked. Lots of Swallows and a couple of Sand Martin. Hobby has not returned to this area as yet.

Hanchurch upper car park

3 Tree Pippets which a fellow birder put me on to and not much else. A single crossbill was seen earlier (lower car park) and it's thought there's around 30 present but I can never find them!
