Adam,

did you catch my previous post? Book suggestion and a possible/hopeful id for your odonata?

Carl

yes i did. not sure on the dragonfly ID, i didnt get too good of a look at it, just that it was green, reached for the camera and it had gone.

i ended up buying collins complete guide of wildflowers and collins complete guide to insects. both good for ID purposes but not full of loads of information, which is what i need at the beginning really.

Belvide and it's Godwits

Birdguides has mentioned 134 Black-Tailed Godwits at Belvide today. That's rather a lot for somewhere inland. :eek!:

Just wondering if it's a record count?

Adam, you're entering the realms of the New Naturalists books. I've got the dragonfly version and it covers instars, ecology, distribution and more. Not cheap but amazing study aid. Google it and see whats on offer. Don't look on ebay - some of the vintage editions are silly money! Carl

Marsh Harrier

Hey up folks, had the pleasure of seeing an adult female Marsh Harrier fly low over Poxey tonight at c1940:t:. Also single Wood Wobbler at hawksmoor. So seeing as the Harrier as got rid of the back to work blues and considering my recent run of form, i've decided to share my Lottery numbers with you.

They are: 51, 52, 54, 57, 59 and 60. Good luck;)

cheers

Andy.

Nice mate I also had an adult female up the Void last week also in the evening
which did fly south - same bird maybe ??

Moth Trapping

A bit off thread but I'm doing some moth trapping at Doxey Marshes for the SWT on Sat 6th - meeting at Cresswell Car Park at 9pm (the car park at the north end where the kids playground is).

Anyone welcome to attend.

Youngsters

Plenty of young birds round the garden at the moment, family of young Wrens, two young Robins, two young Goldfinches, two young Greenfinch and a young Dunnock, not bad going I think :t:

And a f/m Bullfinch too seemed to be feeding on seeds from Forget-me-nots.

Just had a quick scout around Huntley Quarry for the Sand martins, no sign of them yet but did see plenty of Linnets. Also seen were Buzzard, Kestrel, Song thrush, Robin, Wren, Goldfinch, Willow warbler and some common toads under an old log.

Hi,

I'm off on to the Chase tonight, where about did you have the SE Owl?

Cheers,

Greg

Hi sorry about the late reply my laptop is poorly so i have had to log on at work.

The S E Owl was in the Sherbrook valley in the Ansons Bank area it was definitly a S E Owl and not a LEO as it was seen well by a number of birders previously as well, i had distant views from over by the Katyn looking left down the valley.
