Adam, anywhere, seems to be the answer to that one. Couple of dozen at Radial, similar amounts at River Trent just around corner. Pretty much anywhere with nectar t sustain them seems to be favoured at moment. However, the forthcoming forecast may have them bedding down.

One thing I did note, from the Springwatch report, was the egg laying - nettles, and lots of them, seem to be popular.

For those who are interested in butterfly's saw a large number of small blues at the old blue circle quarry the boundary near cheadle.

Hey you!!! stick to your local patch and stop encroaching on mine. Only joking mate. Did you find out what they were?

No problem Carl, I see you as our resident Butterfly expert as I know very little about them. Still not seen any Dragonflies about, seem later this year than last.

Wouldn't count myself as an expert, more of an obsessive :)

We've had plenty of Small Blues and Skippers down the River Trent at Stoke, which for a tiny strip alongside industrial estates and the A500, ain't half bad.

Jessops Mark has broad-bodied chasers (Libellula depressa) emerging from his pond over last few weeks, but the expected Brown Hawker (Aeshna grandis) on the river is a little coy!

Three Shires Head.

Hey up folks, a stroll round the head with the missus and the canine shite dispensers produced naff all. Just a single Redstart. No Wheatears, Whinchats, Stonechats or Ouzels. One or two pairs of Curlews and lappys around Knotbury.

Andy.

Hi i was wondering if anybody knows if the nightjars are back at hanchurch thanx.

I was up there last night. Didn't see or hear any. Mind you I may have been at the wrong place! Did see something unusual on the way up there from Stableford. A very brief sighting of something resembling a Pied Flycatcher but bigger than one of them. Difficult to stop and pull in along that lane. Did though have a scan around but didn't see it again.
