Hi All

Went down to Doxy this morning for a quick walk with the bread knife before she had to go off to work.
Saw the following

LRP with 3 well grown chicks from the screen

Around the rest of the reserve were
Cormorant
Heron
Goldfinch both adult and immature birds
Greenfinch
Buzzard
Reed Warbler
White Throat
Sedge Warbler right in front of the hide, one took some nesting material into the docks. One of the birds was ringed but can't make out the number.
Lapwing

Tim.

Went for a walk at Coombes Valley this evening and saw three Woodcock. Thats the 19th species of wader I've seen this month. The challenge continues ;)

The House Martins continue to use the nest under the eaves and this evening before heading up to Coombes I saw flocks of rooks above the house making their way to their roost.

Happy Birding

Dean B :)

Hi Tim
I am new to the area, where is Doxy, please

regards
Merlin

Hi Merlin

As Carl says its 5min from Stafford town centre if you wish to start at the "Town" end. Plenty of parking that end. Or there is an entrance and small car park off Eccleshall Road then you head into Wooton Drive.

Is not a large reserve but it does get some good stuff.

Tim.

Yes, well done indeed with the Marbled White :eek!: I don't mean to question you're identification, but are you absolutely certain, as records of this species in this part of the world are virtually unheard of...having said that though, there was a Camberwell Beauty at Blithfield y'day so anything is possible, and butterflies do have wings after all ;)

Cheers

Hi All,

Thought I'd better start contributing as I've been reading about your adventures for a few months now and have bumped into a few of you here and there, Russell, Dean, Nick, Adam across Berryhill, Neil and Jim at Berryhill, Madely Church, Swallow Moss and reccently Craig down Hanchurch, apologies to anybody forgotten.

Moved to Oakhill just before Christmas, now have a better half called Gill (nutty redhead) who I think some of you have met.

Learned and and saved some time reading the thread, like I say, hope to contribute something but I suspect I'm going to be picking your brains for a while yet, got a life list of 168 so plenty to go at.

Cool, nice one once again.

Any chance of loading up a still image to this thread?!! I know that would involve loads of wires and frustration probably ;) :-O

Buddleia

Come on then butterfly buffs!! Just planted a Buddleia in the garden and we were told that the darker the flowers the more attractive they are to butterflies. Can't remember latin name but think it was called Black Emperor, deep purple flowers. Any truth to this?

Cheers
Craig
