A up you Utch tart! Sorry, if I'd known I would've sent you a text alert!!

They were together on the barbed wire fence that separates the two main pits from the first small pool, and this is also the pool that the Pintail were on - a nice surprise to be honest.

Cheers
Steve

Caught up with Rosey this morning, was there from 7am and it turned up with the starlings in several places, including the Church. Still a lot of birders turning up to see it in the time we were there. I thought we'd have been the only ones there as everyone would have seen it!

Also finally caught the Crossbills in Hanchurch woods. Around 30 seen there. Finally.

Great lists from Utch and Berry Hill in the past days!, brilliant stuff.

Popped over to Utch this afternoon, never been before so just kept to the main public footpath which takes you accross the field by the roundabout. Lot's about with Buzzards, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and almost certain I saw the Hobby as well. Grey wagtial on the river, Chiff chaff, wren, Greenshank, Cormorants, Pintail, there was another small duck on it's own on the larger pool after where the muddy pipe runs in. Not sure what it was though. I also watched a flock of small birds right over the far side of the main gravel pit, there were at least 40/50 of them rising up and swirling in the air then dropping down again, not sure what these were either as I only had my bins and camera and the birds were half a mile away. Lot's of Dragonflies about on and near to the first pool. Black tip chasers, common darters, southern and migrant hawkers. Butterflies seen were Peacock, Painted lady, Large white, Speckled wood and Red admiral. Not a bad couple of hours. Loads of finches and tits in the garden, numbers are building weekly. 25+ goldfinches about 1 hour ago, mainly juvs.

Hi there Ian, hope to catch up with you sometime, maybe at the Berry hill meet later in the year. Welcome to the thread and BF. Neil.

Is this the Berry Hill event on the 4th October? Or have I missed a completely different one? It'd be good to meet up with more people so I will try to make it along to any meet if I can.

And welcome aboard Ian, good to meet you at Uttoxeter Quarry the other night.

Hello,
My name is Ian, finally cracked how to use a computer, seen some of you at Uttoxeter Quarry and Berryhill Fields.

Hey up tiger, welcome aboard. Make sure you've got some mints next time you're down Utch;) Have you fixed that wobbly tri-pod yet? Can't believe you saw a Nutcracker in 1965, i bet you were still in the pram like me and there's no way Nutcracker could be called a baby tick!!!

Andy.
