Great to see you down there again. I did manage to see the:-

Pintail
Teal
Kestral
Sparrowhawk
Common Sandpiper
Green Sandpiper 2 (flew close to me by track on the walk in)
Meadow Pipits (roaming) or were they Linnets at a distance?
Pied Wagtails
Black Headed Gulls
Herons
Cormorants

Did not see the Garganey. I need to concentrate more!!

No sign of any Glossy Ibis or Great White Egret either ;) These I predict will be there in the near future :t:

2, possibly 3, coal tits in the garden this morning, very rare visitor to my garden with only a couple records of 1 before now. i really want long tailed tits in the garden and a willow tit wouldn't be too bad either.

im off to uni in a minute, only to enrole, but i might have a quick look around the on site nature reserve to see what my new local patch is like. didn't someone mention water voles on the campus as well?? was that stoke campus or staffs campus??

Stoke Campus, entry at lordship lane. Water voles supposed to be between the large pond and a marsh area leading towards the trent. Rumour has an otter too. I have seen kingfisher, heron, goldfinch, bullfinch, willow warbler and chiffchaff there. Reasonable numbers of dragonflies in ideal conditions too.

The duck at the front is a Spot-Billed Duck, escaped from someone's collection. Seen them in India, I would imagine Trent Vale is slightly different to Bharatpur! :-O

Bart tailed Godwit At Long Last

Went over to the Sefton Coast today and made my way to Birkdale for high tide. Fantastic weather and managed to finally catch up with Bar tailed Godwit in good numbers along with Grey Plover, Knot, Sanderling, Dunlin, Oystercatchers and Ringed Plover. It was great to finally see The Bar tailed Godwit and to watch hundreds of waders swirling in flight and flying in squadrens up and down the coast. The Grey Plover were amazing and many were still in summer plumage.

I could see waders as far as the eye could see and the good thing about this location is that you get good close views.

Also saw Stonechat, Wheatear, Starlings, Meadow Pipits, Black tailed Godwit, Teal, Shoveler. Sandwich Terns seen heading south towards Ainsdale.

While there also met the local ranger for that part of the coast who was doing his WeBs count.

After this it was a visit to Marshside RSPB for a bit of photography. Excellent sunlight.

Black Bank

Sky watch this morning 7-8am:

South: Meadow Pipit 90, Swallow 4, Siskin 4, Cormorant 3, Starling 2, Chaffinch 3, Stock Dove 9!, Wood Pigeon 33, Pied Wagtail 9.
West: 13 Linnets

Also many grounded Blackbirds (well, about 20-25) suggesting an overnight arrival.

Then at Hanchurch Woods, in the big clearing by the lower car park, there were 2 Spotted Flycatchers in with a large tit/finch flock which also included 50+ siskins and 3 lesser redpolls.

Hi Nck,
Was that the clearing by the fire track?

Cheers
