Hyper Zonky Mega Crippler Again!!!!

Hey up folks the Dark-bellied Brent Goose was still present at Blake Hall Fishery at 1710 with the Canadas on the small pool by Brookhouse road.

This is the rarest bird recorded at Blake Hall and it was found by my coffin dodgin' mate Mad Malc', who also found the rarest bird at Poxey last year, the Avocet!!!! He also clapped eyes on Hales Halls rarest bird, before moi, last years DB Brent!

If you fancy see owt good round Cheesedale team up with the lad, he can't fail!!!!

And to think he was checkin' one of my spots for Wheatears!!!

Andy.

Had one of them ugly moments this evening whilst at sideway... A group of boozing youths right in my path, one of them threatening to rip my f---ing head off!... I didn't feel that threatened to be honest more angry at the [email protected] we have to put up with these days. Anyway things did improve, added little owl to the list and had a third singing chiff.

Following a tip-off this morning, I managed a few minutes looking at the Brent Goose before I had to go to work. I even missed breakfast! :-O But I did get to work on time.

As Neil said, no sign at dusk, or at both Blake Hall Fishery (although viewing is not easy without entering) or Hales Hall Pool.

Fabulous stuff! Perhaps it's gone to Utch??!

Quick visit today produced my first singing Chiffchaffs of the year (3 birds in all). From the hide were loads of Teal, a pair of Goosander, Oystercatcher, several Redshank and a few Lapwing. Water levels have snook up slightly from the rain over the last few days.

On the scrape from the willow screen platform, 2 Little-ringed Plover, several Lapwing displaying, a couple of Redshank, Shoveler and yet more Teal.

Reports from a friend yesterday included a pair of Shelduck.

Just waiting now for my warblers to return - news from a friend at Dungeness RSPB is that a few Sedge Warblers are starting to drift in... :news:

Nice to see that this thread and the scarce & rare birds thread got a mention in the latest WMBC bulletin that arrived through my door yesterday. All thanks to Ian (Moore-hen). Hopefully the publicity will bring more people on to both threads and in turn more reported coverage of sightings.

Happy Birding

PS: All was alive and well with birdsong at Thorswood last night in the last hour before darkness. I Heard two Tawny Owls and also heard a quiet chirring/murmourings eminating from woodland below the main path I was on. I thought it might be a Woodcock but this was not a flight call. Great place to go and learn birdsong and calls.

2 chiffs again at uni, although one was in a different place than yesterday.
2 herons over
herring gull on the football pitch today.

had a quick glance at the sentinel, it seems they want to build a college/academy in the longton area. they have listed 11 sites. the ones that caught my eye were; berryhill, the end of mossfield drive (still berryhill if you ask me) and park hall. nothing decided yet, but why would they even suggest building on sites with such important wildlife species??

adam

forgot to mention, a jay was a site tick today at uni.

As with all things on here, I'm never at the right place at the right time. Could have done with a bit of Moron-beating to relieve stress!!!

Popped over there late afternoon Stu, surprised I didn't see you, I picked up the Wheatear X3 in the paddock where the white door is standing up, also loads of mipits and skylark about, nice fox at the top end near the mast, and pied wags feeding on the horse poo. I also had a fly over House martin when photographing the Brent goose on Brookhouse road.

Advice please...

Hi all
Not really much to do with Staffordshire but I can't think of anywhere else to ask. Basically can anyone suggest good birding holiday locations in the UK for June / July. Not after any fancy accommodation etc, just some nice birding, even if its not rarity hunting.

Cheers

In my opinion, you could do no worse than north Norfolk! :t:

Or, as June and July is a good time for seabird colonies. Northumberland for the Farne Islands. :t:
