Doxey Marsh-- This Morn

Hi All,

the car was in for a service this morn, so I went around the corner to Doxey Marsh for three hours.

Highlights:

Little Egret x 2 - digi-scoping one bird in front of the metal hide and a second flew in from high and joined it.

Water Pipit x 2 - good views from the wooden platform of two birds feeding on the scrape. One individual on the way to attaining its breeding plumage - e.g peachy- pink breast/under parts

Little Ringed Plover x 3/4 birds on the scrape.

Redshank x 3
Snipe x 5
Oystercatcher x 1
Goosander x 9
Buzzard x 4 over the reserve.
Kestrel x 3 " " "

Surprisingly no Hirundines!:-C

Cheers
Rob

Hi all
Not really much to do with Staffordshire but I can't think of anywhere else to ask. Basically can anyone suggest good birding holiday locations in the UK for June / July. Not after any fancy accommodation etc, just some nice birding, even if its not rarity hunting.

Cheers

A good mini tour for June-July, is the Farne Islands-St Abbs head,-Bass Rock - Aberlady Bay (basically the extreme N/E coast of England up the coast and 'round the corner' into the mouth of the forth)

Or if you can make it there in early June - the outer Hebrides (South & North Uist & Benbecula) for Breeding Waders on the Machair etc

went westport for a run this morning. saw the female goosander and heard at least 2 (maybe 3) chiffchaff. i heard 2 on 2 different occasions, 1 was in the same place each time the other one had moved between laps, so not sure if it was 2 birds (with one moving about) or 3 (with 2 taking it in turns to sing so to speak)

saw a group of birders staring up into a tree near the bridge with the 'birdtable' on it. was scared i would come on here and see i'd ran past something decent.

Moorlands Macro: Close up and personal....with bug
Just had my record number of Bullfinches in the garden, a total of 13 birds with 10 males and 3 females, the females seemed to be chasing the males, is this normal? Also 30+ Redpolls and a couple of Chaffinches.
