Birding In Staffordshire (4 Viewers)

Cross Bill over Silverdale this morning.
Up to 3 Juv Bullfinch and 6 Juv Goldfinch , 3 Siskin (adults) have turned up, seems we get a few of these in poor weather conditions.

Tim.

2 commic terns at Trentham on Tuesday. Would have been nice to get a proper ID, but I had no bins with me. Also plenty of house martins, sand martins and swallows over the lake.

Barn owl chicks growing well at Coombes. The Date With Nature project is up and running as of today.

More than likely they were Common Terns has there have been some knocking about for a few weeks, still 2 Common Terns there today.

Shelducks at Westport

Think these are juv Cape Shelducks or hybrids rather than juv Ruddy Shelducks due to the heads having a slight greyish tinge - they are fully winged & unringed but a little on the tame side - i.e. they run off rather than fly off;)
Any other opinions would be welcome.

Radford Meadows SWT Reserve, Stafford

Thought I would try Radford Meadows (of Common Crane fame)this morn, as there seemed to be plenty of birds on the flooded fields.

As many sites at the moment, viewing restricted due to the taller, more lush vegetation growth than normal, this 'summer'!

Highlights:

Lapwing x 210
Black-tailed Godwit x 1
Oystercatcher x 3+
Common Sandpiper x 1
B H Gull x 450+ (including many Juvs)
Green Woodpecker x 2 ( including digi-scoped female, in moult)
Lesser Whitethroat x 1
Swift x 150+ feeding low over the floods.
Sparrowhawk x 1 female with prey!
Kestrel x 2

cheers

Rob :t:
