Well the good news is that today I received that last parts for my digiscoping kit from SRB-Griturn the cable bracket/cable and a Nikon equivalent adaptor to link camera to Swarovski adaptor and the scope.

All I need now is to get my head around the camera and input the settings for digiscoping.

I am at last looking forward to getting started.

Now you mention it Russell. By far my worst ever dip is the Scops Owl at Thrupp, near Oxford, a couple of years ago. It was there for two months. I had all that time to get down there. When I did I happened make my way the day after it was last seen or heard. Unbelievable!

Thrupp is a lovely little village by the way, but it wasn't much of a consolation. And I got home about 1:30 in the morning.

Dean, if Beanflirter is a clean rename of what I know, then you don't want to know!!!!!!!!! I've also got other friends that I'm meeting on Thursday, as well as Friday ;)

Oh yes, my latest avatar is Nigel Tufnel from the mighty Spinal Tap. Complete with the 18 inch stonehenge monument, that got trampled by dwarves. Hence the signature.

Ah the joys of twitching,Gulls can be tricky to twitch,Audouins is a very good one to get and not to far away, its not been seen today.
Have you had any horrible dips Richard.
My worst in terms of distance were Yellow Billed Cuckoo at the bottom end of Cornwall and Siberian Rubythroat on the south coast, both overnight trecks.
The Cornwall dip resulted in me stopping overnight twitch's and I only go now if the bird is present first thing.

Hey up me old Beanflirter. I've heard of a similar phrase, but I'm not going into that on a family friendly forum! Not even after the watershed (where does that phrase come from anyway?).

I would go tomorrow, but that's what happens when you make arrangements to meet friends in advance! Typical, fingers crossed it stays for a couple of days at least.

Richard, I think you should go on a reconassance mission tommorrow for all us poor souls who will be stuck at work....plus I don't want to be blamed if it moves on in the meantime and we miss it ;)

PS What the dickens is a beanflirter? :-O

Managed to see the Thrupp Scops Owl.
Was in Castilla La Manacha in South Central Spain in May 2007 and there was one calling outside my bedroom window every night I was there.

Kay,

You will have to go back a few pages to a posting by one of funniest blokes in Cheadle called Andy or Rockbirder where the phrase 'Beanflirter' was first posted on this thread.

Richard, I remember the film well and now realise who the guy in the avatar is.

My hard rock/ heavy metal days on the mean streets of Birmingham in the 1970's going from gig to gig are well and truely over. Does anyone remember Bogarts, The Golden Eagle, Barrel Organ, The Railway, B'ham Odeon, the Town Hall and Volume 4. I could go on but I won't.

Kay, I think Richard should go tomorrow with his other friends and on his return he could do a bivi in one of the hides at Upton Warren.

As I said, I wish I could go on a reconnaisance mission. This is the result of being popular!

As for Beanflirter, if it's what I know, it's not happening on this thread. Now enough.

I googled it and only one result came up - this thread! That means that this thread is a googlewhack! :eek!:

The large Goldfinch flock here is attracting attention from Sparrowhawks and this afternoon during a break from the rain a Hobby tore into them in front of myself and Steve (FairIsle). Some how or other they escaped its clutches and it flew off.

Wow, how close were you to the action Russell?
Methinks I will take a stroll around there tomorrow afternoon after work.

The Hobby flew in low over over our heads and chased round quite close up to about 50 metres. The main Goldfinch flock is usually around the west facing paddocks (looking towards Hanley and the industrial estate). Also 2 Whinchats and Redstarts around this area.

Highlight this morning was the arrival of a spotted flycatcher in the NW corner of the "bar-wit paddock". Also present on a quick search were 4 wheatears, a grey wagtail, the 3 long staying whinchats, 2 bullfinches, a kestrel and a green woodpecker.

Hopefully Russell can find some more stuff with time to search.

Thanks, Nick

Hi Rob, The canal / sideway area used to be quite good until they concreted most of it over but your posting shows that there's still interesting stuff to be found.:t: There's a reed bed between the Sainsbury warehouse entrance and the mini-roundabout where the Incinerator turn off is - I found a reed warbler on territory there late spring - won't be there now but worth checking next year. I also received a record of grasshopper warbler by the canal a couple of years ago - there may still be some suitable habitat in the area so an early morning spring visit next year might get you one of these too. I also heard about a sighting of a juvenile hobby catching moths / insects at Stoke's last pre-season friendly at the Brit. Stadium a week or 2 back - feeding on them as they flew round the floodlights until gone 10pm.

Cheers Nick

spent somtime down by britania staduim fishing pools and canal this morning
6:30 till 7:45
2 sedge warblers
1 lesser whitethroat
1 kestrel
other than tht been of county today down for stilt sandpiper , wood sandpiper and red necked pharalope :D
