Happy New Year Members and bird watchers!

I spent 10 days in the Costa Rican mountains, fantastic. 139 different birds and 78 LIFERS and I hope to increase this numbers by the help of you.

I have had Guides and never any problem to ID the birds. Present hotel where I have stayed for 3 days. The full song and dance on internet about their birding Guides and tours. Turned out to be a lot of nothing. So I have been birding by myself and I have managed to ID most of the birds.

Stopping my bird watching this morning to get back to my booed birding tour, yes, they managed to book one tour for me.

I have saved my last pictures that I have not manage to ID for my Guide. 15 minutes before departure, they knock on the door to tell me that there is no Guide.

So instead of birding i have tried to ID the last birds, but I failed with some of the birds.
Picture:
1) Not possible for me to ID
2 and 2-1) Not possible for me to ID, some kind of treecreeper
3) Not possible for me to ID, behaves like a fly catcher hunting from the perch in the lake
4) Not possible for me to ID
5) Not possible for me to ID
6 and 6-1) This one I think is a Grey Hawk
7 and 7-1) This one I have ID as an Tropical Kingbird
8) Tennessee Warbler, I have seen a lot of them, but they have all been grey, the young light olive green, but this one is dark olive green
9) Great Blue Heron, but this is very redish/ brownish in colour, maybe a young bird?

Any one with any idea on the bird pictures.

So now you know how I spend the New Years Eve.

Happy New Year
Aladdin

1: yellow-throated Euphonia
2 is a Wren, if in NW it could be rufous-naped
3: Black Phoebe
4: Spotted Sandp
5: Inca dove (another NW species)
6: Gray Hawk correct if in NW, Gray-lined if in south
7: correct
8: I believe the id is correct, just variation
9: Cannot see what else, looks wet

Rufous-backed (/naped) Wren is now a common breeder in San José and spreading.

Thank you very much, highly appreciated!

Gray Hawk, I was looking for this, but not an option in eBird until I wrote GREY. Reference say GRAY, so I tried Grey-lined and this was an rare bird alert and I got scared. I tried the GREY and I could report the bird.

I spotted two today.

My lifer list went from 78 to 80 and 74 lifer pictures and 20 lifer recordings

Thank for that and Happy New Year!

It depends how you have the language set up in ebird. If it's set to British English then "grey", if American then "gray". Many but not all guides to the region use American spellings. (Of course, in honour of the Company of Scotland's New Caledonia nonsense all English names should rightly use British English spellings.)

Gray vs Gray-lined Hawk - in Costa Rica Gray-lined Hawk occurs only in the far southeast, mostly in the Osa Peninsula. If the bird was seen anywhere other than that, it would be a Gray Hawk.
