Went for a Pied Wheatear at Felixstowe Docks on the day that a male Red-flanked Bluetail was found down the road, just finished watching the wheatear and a Pallas's Warbler, when a birder from back on my (then) London Patch came over and told us that the bluetail had just been caught. We arrived after it had been released to get the best non-in-the-hand views of the day, just before it disappeared prior to a heavy shower. Or deciding to go for a what should have been a relaxing smoke by the river in Bedford city centre about a week after I'd moved to nearby Ampthill. I'd just gone there on a whim between going in places looking for jobs. Just as I about to leave having watched the local chavs hurl shoes, balls and abuse across the river at eachother and I realised that what I'd been hearing clearly, even on the other side of the river over "innit" and "you mug" was a Yellow-browed Warbler! Second for Bedfordshire, and turned out to be the first for several beds listers who twitched it. Thought feck the chavs and went over the bridge and got decent bin views of it right up in the taller trees. Happy days I suppose any of the rares (rarer than YBWarbler anyway lol) i've found could count there but these two seem particularly lucky Jan
