My first visit to Bittell Reservoir this year. After a short wait the Kingfisher flew along the river under the road bridge and stopped on a perch. It dived in the river and then flew off. The House Martins were flying up and over the road. Great!

Not seen one along there since they did the dredging work months ago.....think its an actual Canal not a river by the way.....according to a local from Alvechurch I talk to sometimes here.

Hi Keith. Magnet lol. On the few times I've seen them at Bittell they either fly from or to the river ahem the canal lol. So I had a feeling one would fly along there.

When I visit I spend the hours walking up and down the road from the River /Canal to the corner at the bottom as things can show up at any time. Every time recently there's been a Bullfinch pair around where the overflow goes under the road.

The only 2 that I can find with down curved bill are DUNLIN and CURLEW SANDPIPER....some have said RUFF but the bill does not seem to fit ?

Interesting Keith, always difficult to tell from that distance. There was a redshank about yesterday, but not suggesting that's the bird you've photographed. Personally I don't think it's a Dunlin due to its colouring on the underside, but would have had to see the bird in a scope to confirm its true identity.

First pic makes it seem like a completely different bird imo, more like a ruff/redshank kind with that longish neck, and the other three similar to the birds you suggested with the down curved bills.
