Black bird from Baliem Valley, Papua (1 Viewer)

This photo was taken from a long distance in August 2007 at an elevation of more than 2400 m. I estimate the size to 18-22 cm. No song was heard.

I really can't fit in to any of my books.

Appreciate any suggestions.

It looks like it has a grey crown, black forehead & all black underparts. Rather small neat bill. You can't see the wings or the rest of the upperparts but if they're grey I'd suggest it's a Black-bellied Cuckoo-shrike,

Hi Mehd,

I agree with John. The crown looks much paler than it is because of the effect of the sunlight. Beautiful photo. First time I've ever seen one of a male.
