Black-browed Albatross - Bempton Cliffs RSPB Reserve - 10 September 2021 (1 Viewer)

Delighted to have the opportunity to spend an hour or so mid-morning with the Black-browed Albatross on Friday 10th after visiting the Green Warbler with a friend.

After it had not visited Hermaness in 1988 & 1989 after 14 consecutive years, I had dipped the species in 1990 on Shetland when it finally returned (missing it by an hour or so having visited the islands to see Pallas's Sandgrouse & being on Fetlar watching a Snowy Owl when we heard that it had reappeared). It flew off before we got there. The next year we made no mistake travelling as soon as it came back and connected but the views were of it on its ledge with one brief flap. Better activity than most achieved.

So thirty years later this was special. 5 posts of 5 photos.

All the best

Paul

These are absolutely terrific. Could I add some of mine to this thread rather than start another?

John
Absolutely John. Add away.

I was playing with a new camera so a touch frustrating that it wasn't a week later now I have a better feel for the Auto-focus & worked out how to shoot more frames with a decent Memory Card.

But as the purchase was sought of spontaneous on the Tuesday that week, I mustn't grumble.

All the best

Paul

Thank you my friend! So here are some photos - basically selected to give different views from Paul's - of the Black-browed Albatross during my latest visit (of four this summer!) to Bempton for the Green Warbler, which I saw but photographed underwhelmingly.

First five of ten.

And a second lot of five to make ten of the albatross. It really did do us a job this time after views that in 1986 I'd have killed for but in the 2021 context of others' pix instantly published left me wanting more......
