Black Kite? Central France (1 Viewer)

Didn't have bins only camera but my take on them was a pair of black kites. they appeared to be catching fish though which was unexpected to me.

Certainly seem to be Black Kite. It's a long time since I visited central France, but they were certainly common in many locations - had over 50 on a rubbish tip near La Rochelle on a chance visit. Never saw any fishing, though - the only live predation I saw was of a roadside rat.

Thanks, just did a google and apparently they regularly take dead fish from water surfaces, not being that familiar with the species i didnt know that

Definitely black kite - they are very partial to the dead fish put out for the Steller's and white-tailed sea eagles at Lake Furen in Hokkaido!

That must be cool to watch. Like I said my take at the time was black kite. Just didnt realise they did this

Highly recommended for some great views - see below (obviously different subspecies...)...
...and the main target, black kites out of picture, keeping a respectful distance from these guys

Great shots. Those eagles are amazing.

I’ve got a (nowhere near as good) shot somewhere of a red kite keeping its distance from cinerous vulture at a dead sheep. Nice to see the pecking order
