Black Woodpecker central France (1 Viewer)

I have recently started using Merlin sound recordings, I know it is not 100% reliable. Yesterday and today I heard a different bird call from our orchard, we are in Jaunoux 18170. I have not heard this call before but today I managed to get a sound recording on my phone. I have listened to my recording and other similar calls on the internet and I think my recording is a black woodpecker with the sound of my wife making lunch in the background. My question is are Black Woodpeckers found in this part of France and how do I upload my recording onto bird forum. I use an iPhone with a Mac powerbook. Mike

Hi Mike, the technological stuff is above my pay grade but I can confirm that Black Woodpecker occurs throughout Department 18. There are two main types of call to be heard at this time of the year, when flying it makes a purrup purrup purrup noise, when perched an eerie ‘klaine ´ call. Hope that clinches it for you without the need to crash your computer !

I think it is entirely possible with the right habitat around, but couldn´t you upload the recording?
I would if I knew how.

You can probably find your MerlinID saved record in your phone (usually it comes as a wav file with the name structure yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm). You may find useful selecting the search within "My audio recordings" in the app to get the name of the right file. As you are using iPhone I cannot tell you in which folders are stored by default (in Android is Internal Memory/Music/Merlin). You can either download it to the pc, or share it with, for instance, your email. Then you can upload it at BirdForum. Usually the non-modified file should be enough for ID. It is not as straight-forward as desirable, but with two-three actions you get it uploaded here.
